Chapter 2

The Dark Side.

His dark cloak billowed out as he ran as quick as he could down the wide and awfully bright hallway.

A wide set of doors, guarded, stood at the end of the hallway. A set of spears stopped the panting man from proceeding further.

"A message... a message for his excellency," the man panted.

The guards repositioned themselves without a word. The doors swung open inwards. The man stepped into a dark room. The doors closed behind him.

A furnace blazed to the left of a large armchair.

The young man could only see it's back.

"Garett," A low growl-like voice sounded from the chair, "What message do you bring?"

The young man shivered involuntarily and bowed to the back of the chair.

"Your excellency," his weak voice trembled, "The queen... she refuses to follow your suggestion." His mind blanked when he thought of how his master would react.

"She refuses?" The voice was deadly calm.

The young man trembled again.

"Well, Garett," It continued, "I don't remember ordering you to ask her. I remember telling you to make her agree. Disobeying orders?"

"No, sire," the young man's voice was almost a whisper, "I... I tried.. She was bent on saying no. I even mentioned your name but she just refused."

A harsh laugh echoed across the room from the chair and Garett cringed.

"Ah, Tanya... She thinks she is my superior..." the voice tsk-ed.

The chair turned around and Garett kept his head down, a form of respect.

"That is what everyone on our beloved planet thinks anyway..." The man in the chair continued, his fingertips pressed together.

"They are, sadly, mistaken. Aren't they, Garett?" The man's voice sent shivers down Garett's spine.

"Oh yes, sire. Certainly." Garett replied feverishly.

"Garett," the man in the chair ordered, "leave now. I have another job for you... Your Skill is far too powerful to ignore..."

Garett's heart rate increased with hope that he'd been given a second chance.

"If you don't succeed in this then..."

"I will, your excellency!" Garett said raising his head on an impulse.

The sight of the dark, long hair of the man in the chair scared him and he shrunk back.

"Do not interrupt me." A low growl again.

Garett lowered his head in submission, fear constricting his throat.

"Leave, Garett. You will be told what to do. It is to do with that puny school on the other planet. I'll let you know soon enough."

"Yes, sire."

Garett left the dark, chill room with the sound of his master's cold laughter echoing in his ears.
