{6}My body ached and it wasn't from longing of Zac Efron's face.
As I lay in my single bed, alone, I take note of everybody part that was hurting. I gave up about twenty minutes ago because I figured I should be trying to count what didn't hurt.
I heard the door slam shut when my father was done with beating the shit out of me, but did not bother to rush out and lock the door behind him.
But now, as the pain increases, I realize that I should get to a doctor. Or call Colton.
They won't know. I don't have to tell anybody.
Moving slowly to pick up my phone, I dialled Colton's number as fast as my fingers could go. He picked up on the third ring.
"Andrea?" His voice wifted through the speaker and I sighed. "Listen if you're ringing to say -"
I cut him off, "I need help."
I could pretty much hear his whole body freeze. "Girl help? If you need tampons and stuff I'll, uh, go get them if you want..."
"No!" I snapped, frustratedly. "Just... Come to my house and take me to the hospital please"
"What? The hospital?" In the backround of Colton's voice I could heard him opening a door. "Why do you need the hospital, Andy?"
"I'll..." My head was starting to feel light and my vision was blackening, "Explain when you get here."
Then black overcame me.
--
I woke to the sound of opera.
"Colton?" I peeled one eye open, to see we were in his truck, close to the hospital. "You like opera?"
Colton's eyes widdened and he turned down the soothing music. "Uh, no." He looked at me. "You okay?"
This is a bad idea. I thought, my father will kill me! He'll hurt me even more! No no no, abort mission! Abort!
"Andy?"
"Yeah I think I am," I tried to grin, but it hurt my face so I stopped. "We can go home now."
"Andrea Owens." Colton looked at me sternly, but I could still see the worry in his eyes. "You can't smile without hurting yourself. We're going to the hospital."
"But..." I tried to protest but I knew that once Colton made up his mind, it was made.
When my best friend asked the next question my whole body went tense.
Even my toes. Toes!
"So, what happened?" He looked as if he didn't want to know.
Oh god, he knows. He's figured it out already. He called the police and they are gonna arrest him, and I'll be sent to an orpanage. I'll never see Colton again!
"Fell down the stairs."
Colton didn't look convinced, but before he could say anything, I pretended to black out again. I heard Colton sigh, and turn his opera music back on.
So I decided I'd fall asleep, to block the aching and the music.
--
"So, you're saying she fell down the stairs?" i heard a female voice say. "That's abit too much damage for stairs."
"That's what she says," I recognised that voice as Colton.
The woman still sound uneasy, "Right, well, we'll have to wait 'till she wakes up to question her."
It's a cop. Definitely a -
"Thanks, nurse."
Nurse.
I heard footsteps and then a chair being dragged, then somebody sit in it.
"You can stop pretending to be asleep now, Andy."
Slowly, I opened my eyes to find Colton's green-blue ones. "How could you tell?"
"I watch you when your sleeping."
My eyes widen, and I gasped. When Colton laughed I glared at him and rolled onto my back carefully.
"Not funny, Smith." I tried to hide my wince as I moved my arm onto my chest.
Suddenly all seriousness was back in the room. When I looked at Colton, I found that he was already staring at me. A frown on his face.
"What?"
"What really happened?" He pushed, putting a hand on my shoulder lightly.
"I fell down the stairs." I repeated my words from before in his truck. "I told you this."
"Andy..." He looked sad. Pitiful. "You don't have stairs."
