******************************************

This is a short story from another story I'm writing :). The background is is this half vampire girl is in love with two guys, a half fae guy and a werewolf, right now they are in a little love triangle. The werewolf has asked this girl to weave him a tale and her response was "I will tell you the tale of how a Princess became a Queen". Enjoy!

******************************************

There once was a young princess that was loved by all, she was a rarity, they said, a rarity to be protected. Of course, the King and Queen agreed and so, gave her a guard, the Queen's White Knight and most trusted adviser. He loved the princess fiercely and she him just as fiercely but it was a different kind of fire. The Knight became the princess's friend and nanny of sorts, he fed her, clothed her, played with her and dashed away her nightmares. But, all that had to come to an end.

Keeva: One day, a fairy came to the kingdom. Her eyes sought out the Knight immediately for she was looking for a champion and rumor had it, the Knight was best at what he did. So, the fairy seduced the Knight whilst he was out at the tavern with his men and friends. The fairy gave the Knight the illusion of love and when the Knight found out the fairy's dastardly plan, he told the Princess and the Princess feared for her Knight.

That same evening, the fairy came to the Princess and Knight and the Princess was soon enthralled by the fairy and her magic. The Knight would not have it however, "Take me in her stead" and thus, the fairy's plan was complete, for you see she had used the Knight's love against him. Soon after, the fairy took the Knight to where the Princess knew not "I'll be back in three weeks" the Knight vowed to his Princess. He was not back in three weeks. When the Princess realized her Knight wasn't coming back, she stopped everything. There was no joy in her life, she threw unprovoked temper tantrums and would not eat.

Darkness grew in her heart until it seemed to consume her. Her nightmares crawled on her every night, the Princess unable to keep the shadows at bay. The King and Queen tried to console her but nothing worked. Finally, when the Princess was but a month from being of age, she began to harden herself. No one could find the Knight, she knew as much, but she could, for the Knight was always hers. So, armed with but her wit she set out to slay anyone in her way, in hopes that, where ever he was, her Knight would hear of her deeds. Eventually, she had fought all those eligible in the kingdom many times over and they had come to respect her, they made her Queen and so she was for a time...until a dark stranger appeared. He was fast and arrogant, the Queen challenged him "Anyone that wishes to enter my kingdom must prove themselves able in combat" he refused the challenge, so, in a rage, the Queen attacked. In what seemed like mere seconds, the stranger had disabled the Queen and she had fallen in love again.

The stranger made the Queen's blood boil in equal parts passion and rage. She was perplexed by the idea of being able to feel again. The stranger and her began to take secret rendezvous until finally, she plucked up the courage to bring the stranger to the castle. They kissed and touched and whispered sweet nothings to each other, the stranger asked for all of her but the Queen knew she could not give her new love what he asked for, for her heart still belonged to her Knight. The stranger was angered and left in a rage and the Queen followed him in tears. When it was apparent he too had left her life, she stormed into the castle, determined to shut herself out from the world completely. Then...there was a knock at the castle gate. Reluctantly, she opened it and there stood her White Knight. Still raw from the previous argument fueled by years of pent up sorrow, she attacked the Knight so viciously that her father had to pull her off and hold her as the Knight rode off to his cottage in the village. The Queen regretted her choices as soon as they were made and cried out for her Knight to come back, to accept her apologies but, he would hear none of it.

Eventually, after much persistence, the Knight allowed the Queen admittance into his abode and, with time. Their relationship was nearly whole. Now, however, he was no longer white for the fairy's dark magic had marked him. He was now, the Grey Knight for even though darkness touched him, he still held onto his pure ideals. The Queen gave her title up to be with her Knight and help him recover, sacrificing her beautiful stranger to the point that her heart wept. With time, all was healed, but the Queen still had a strong love for her stranger, who she had later learned had become steward of her land. She arranged for them to meet again and with that meeting, the flame of passion was quickly fanned and so, they fell into those flames. She felt whole again, her Knight was truly hers and her stranger had vowed never to leave her. Finally, things were good in the kingdom once again.
