Chapter 1

It was just after 7:00 am and it was only 2 hours until my riding lesson! I always get very excited about my riding lesson because it is my favourite thing to do. I have ridden since I was 8 so that's 4 years now! I have always dreamed of owning my own horse but at the moment we can't afford it.

"Ariana!" Called mum

"Yes" I replied

"You better start getting ready for your riding lesson!"

I reached into my Chester draws and grabbed a paid of jodphurs and a riding top. I walked over to the window and opened the curtains it was a beautiful day for riding! The sun was shining and there wasn't a cloud to be seen. Our empty paddocks were greener than ever. I was just imagining a beautiful dark bay horse with a gleaming coat standing in one of our paddocks. Spirit would be her name.

I sat on the window ledge and daydreamed for a while fantasising about all the adventures I would go on with spirit. I was almost certain we would go to badminton horse trials and pony club.

Soon it was time to set off to the stables as it was 8:30. I jumped in the car and read my pony magazine. I read all the tips for making your jumping position perfect. I loved the pony magazine because it had so many tips and horse pictures in it!

My parents drove me to the stables and came with me to sign in.

I went to tack up Apple the horse I rode. Every time I did up the girth Apple nipped me. It was quite funny but a bit annoying sometimes.

I went to the arena where my riding teacher was standing. She gave me a big smile and greeted me.

I went over to the mountain block and mounted Apple. Today I was jumping a course of 2'6. I warmed Apple up and did some warming up little jumps.

10 minutes later I tried the jumping course and there was a big filler at the end which Apple refused. My riding teacher encouraged me to try again, so I did. This time I kept my leg on and we cleared it!

"Well done!" Said my dad.

I smiled and sighed with relief. I love the feeling of jumping successfully. I praised Apple and tried the course a few more times. They were all successful but one because we knocked a pole down. I cooled Apple down and dismounted, when I got off I gave him a carrot. He loved carrots. I took him back to his stable and untacked him. He was exhausted and went into a light sleep.

When we got home I went straight to my bedroom and looked out the window into the empty paddocks. But just then I saw something it was a horse! A dark bay standing in the paddock with an extremely matted and scruffy coat.

It was just like my daydream. I went down to see the horse. The sun was shining brighter than ever. I called my parents outside to see. I slowly and calmly walked over to this beautiful, scared and lost horse. I put my hand out so that it would smell it. It's coat was matted and long but I could see that underneath the long scruffy coat it was a stunning horse. We called a vet out to come and have a look at the horse.

"This horse has no microchip or anything telling us it has an owner. It looks like it has been abandoned" said the vet.

"Abandoned! How could anyone abandon this beautiful creature". I stressed.

I got an old grooming kit out for when I used to help my friends with their horses. I picked up the body brush and gently started brushing. The horse was nervy but when I talked calmly to her she relaxed. Soon the horse was a sparkling dark bay but was so thin.

"I will have to find someone to look after this horse" exclaimed the vet.

Just then something made sense, I was supposed to adopt this horse! This was Spirit! My dream. I looked up to my parents longingly. They knew exactly what I was playing at. Mum looked at the horse and sighed.

"Only under one condition is that you promise to give me and your father lots of hugs and kisses!" Laughed mum.

"OMG OMG OMG my dream is coming alive" I cried.

"Perfect!" Smiled the vet.

"Thank you so much!" I cried.

Chapter 2

That evening i had never felt so happy in my life. Spirit was everything I had dreamed of.

I went downstairs and into the paddock where spirit was standing. I gently stroked her head. She seemed much calmer when I was with her. Spirit nuzzled me and I kissed her on the forehead. It was almost like we were made for each other. I needed to get her weight back to normal. The vet had said that she was about 7 or 8 but didn't look like she had been ridden before. Her long flowing mane was so beautiful. I couldn't wait to ride her one day.

"I love you Spirit" I said with a tears of joy in my eye. It was almost like Spirit understood me and nuzzled me to say me too. Spirit wasn't just a horse she was something special. I feel so privileged to have something so special.
