Ashlyn

I jolted awake as there was a knock on the door and I sat up straight, looking around quickly as my mind raced to clear the fog of sleep. There was another knock and before I could even stand Kyle was up and answering the door.

"What's up Marcus?" He asked leaning in the doorframe, head tilted to the side.

"Her mother is here" Marcus whispered, glancing past Kyle at me as I walked over to the door. "Alpha called her after school ended" he added as he turned and walked downstairs. My eyes widened and I quickly stepped into the hall, glancing over the banister and down into the foyer.

"Shit!" I whispered as I stepped back. Kyle gently grabbed my hand and turned me to face him.

"Don't worry, let me explain to her" he whispered and held my hand as we walked downstairs. My mother nodded at something Morgan said and turned to look at me.

"Ashlyn Grace Coleman." she said sternly, raising an eyebrow at me and Kyle's intertwined fingers. I flinched and bit my lip.

"Mom, please don't be-" I mumbled.

"Why didn't you call me?!" she interrupted, walking over and cupping my face as she frowned. I glanced at Morgan uncertainly and he smiled reassuringly. "I would've come and picked you up if I had known you were having a rough time..." she mumbled.

"I told your mother that you weren't having a great day and that Kyle brought you here to calm down." Mr. Foreman smiled. I nodded and smiled at my mom. That wasn't far from the truth...

"I'm sorry I didn't call you" I apologized, feeling bad she was so upset.

"It's alright hun, are you alright?" she asked. Kyle walked over to his father and crossed his arms as he watched.

"I'm fine now, don't worry. I'm just hanging out with Kyle" I nodded. She smiled and kissed my head.

"Alright Sweetheart. Are you ready to come home yet?" She asked. I glanced past her at Kyle. I really wanted to stay with him, even if just for a bit longer. Before I could make up some excuse to stay, Kyle stepped forward.

"Actually, she was invited to stay for dinner... If that's okay with you Mrs. Coleman," Kyle smiled. My mother looked over at him then to me, raising an eyebrow in playful questioning. I blushed and quickly shook my head, praying she wouldn't say anything to embarrass me.

"Like, just the two of you or...?" She asked slowly.

"Mom!" I squeaked, hiding my face in my hands. Kyle blushed and looked down, smiling slightly.

"Wait- you didn't tell me you were going out?" Mr. Foreman said looking at Kyle.

"Dad- No!" Kyle said quickly, waving his hands. I made a noise that resembled a strangled cat and looked away, face burning.

"Okay, okay! But tell me one thing before I leave..." My mother giggled, pulling me aside. "Are you two dating...?" she whispered. I opened and closed my mouth quickly. Were we dating? I looked at Kyle nervously, afraid of answering wrong. Kyle smiled warmly when I met his eyes, tilting his head playfully.

"Yes." I mumbled, smiling slightly as I looked down. My mother squealed and wrapped her arms around me, giggling quietly.

"Mooom!" I groaned and she quickly let go.

"I'm sorry I'm sorry..." she mumbled. "Alright, I'll leave now." she nodded and walked over to the door, smiling at Mr. Foreman and Kyle. "Behave Ashlyn!" she called as Morgan closed the door behind her. Kyle glanced back at the door as he walked over to me, chuckling slightly as he looked down at me.

"Why didn't you tell me we were dating, I would've said something romantic" he teased. I smiled and bit my lip.

"I kinda just went with my gut... If you're not okay with being my boy- mph!" I smiled into the kiss and grabbed onto the front of Kyle's shirt as I felt his hands on my waist.

"I'm completely okay with that..." He smiled. I grinned and stood on my toes to kiss him quickly, my stomach doing happy summersaults. Kyle chuckled and wrapped his arms around my waist, looking up when Morgan cleared his throat. I quickly stepped back and tucked my hands behind my back.

"No, please, don't mind me" he chuckled as he walked towards the front room. "But if you two do intend on going out, please be careful." Mr. Foreman called. Kyle shook his head, smiling in amusement. Suddenly my stomach clenched and I flinched, my gums aching.

"Not now..." I mumbled and turned away from Kyle, running my tongue over my sore gums. Kyle frowned and gently grabbed my hand.

"Ashlyn, what's-" I jerked my hand away and stepped away from him, shaking my head.

"It's-... I'm fine..." I mumbled. I needed to get out of here before I got too hungry...

"Ashlyn, what's wrong?" Kyle asked slowly. I looked down and sighed.

"I'm just hungry..." I murmured. Kyle nodded, understanding what I meant.

"Alright... Let's go hunting." he smiled. "As long as we stay in the territory, we should be fine" he nodded and walked towards the door. I frowned and hesitantly followed him.

"Are you sure...? I don't want to accidentally hurt you" I sighed. Kyle chuckled and pulled on a jacket, smiling at me assuringly.

"You won't. I know you won't" he said opening the door and bowing as he held his arm out. "After you" he grinned. I smiled slightly and pulled on my coat as I walked out onto the porch. I looked up at Kyle as he grabbed my hand and led me off the porch and into the woods, the oncoming night sounds so surreal inside the forest.

"Have you ever been out here at night...?" Kyle asked quietly. I smiled and leaned my shoulder against his, looking around as the pinks and oranges of the setting sun filtered through the trees.

"Uh, not out in these woods, but I've been in the woods at night. I used to camp all the time with my parents and extended family when I was younger" I chuckled. Kyle smiled and squeezed my hand.

"When was the last time you went...?" he asked curiously. My smile faded as memories of my last camping trip came forward.

"When I was fourteen..." I mumbled, tensing up as I looked around. Kyle frowned and let go of my hand to wrap his arm around my shoulders instead.

"Why'd you stop going? Didn't you enjoy camping?" he asked. I nodded.

"Of course I did- I loved it. But... The night scares me now... Especially the woods when it's dark..." I mumbled. Kyle stopped and turned to face me, his hands holding my shoulders.

"I won't ask what happened, you'll tell me when you're comfortable talking about it. But I will help you. I'm going to get you over your fear of the night" he grinned, eyes sparking with mischief. I blinked a few times, a little surprised but relieved.

"Thanks Kyle... Alright, I want to stop being scared." I nodded. Kyle smiled and kissed me gently.

"And you will."
