Chapter 3 Arrival From the East

I made way through the winding halls of the palace with the small smirk still placed on my face. As I walked I skillfully avoided running into anyone on my way towards my quarters. When I reached the door with the ornamentation or black roses climbing over it I sighed in relief. I opened the doors to my living quarters. Moving into the living area of my abode, I removed my dark green cloak and sat on the couch.

I let my gaze wander around the room. The walls were a thick grey stone that had thick long drapes of dark red velvet. There were various weapons hanging on the walls, many that I had forged myself. My eyes dropped to the floor, which was covered in thick oriental rugs that I had found mesmerizing. There was a small table in front of the couch where I sat. It was covered with a plethora of books that I had finished reading and that now served to be a weapon if need be.

I got up and moved down the hall in the back of the room and went past three other doors. One led to my little library, another to a study and the last a room that I stored things. I moved to small staircase that led to my upper floor. Up here were my favorite places, aside from my library. My workshop and bedroom. I hurried to the comfort of my room.

"It's good to be home." I said with a smile when I walked into the familiar organized chaos that is my room. The rest of what I consider home was in dark colors that were rich and deep, my room is the only one that is light and airy. The walls where hung with light calm green and there were plants that were lush green with scented candles placed everywhere. Books where thrown were ever that could fit along with my sketches of new weapons and army maneuvers. I made my way to my large four poster bed, one of my few extravagances. I stopped when I caught my reflection in the floor length mirror.

I was not fat, due to vigorous training, but I had enough to keep me looking starved. My mid back length brown hair was up, my bangs framing my round, but not pudgy face. I looked at my eyes, the grey ring that went to a deep brown with a few flecks of gold. My tall figure looked commanding and lethal. I sighed and moved away from my reflection before I stared to notice the other things. The things I wish would disappear. I lay down on my bed and feel comfortable, more so then I did when with Kileath. I decided to wash up when I started to feel grimy and realized how long since I had a real bath. I went over to my wardrobe and grabbed some pants and a sleeveless shirt. I grabbed my toiletries and made my way out of my living quarters and towards the baths.

Without having to I was aware of every person that was moving within the area that I was moving in. When I was younger it used to be overwhelming. I would feel everyone for miles and miles and those who were close I could hear their heart beat. It used to make me feel unnerved and hard to concentrate, but now I can control it, even focus on certain people and the area around them. Making it easy to know if Kileath is in any danger. I haven't been able to turn it off completely yet but even if I could I wouldn't want to. This thing I have has kept me alive.

A presence I am familiar with enters the range I am feeling and I know it is heading towards me. I fallow the curve of the hall I am in to the baths. Where he is waiting for me.

"Hello Angelo," A smile creeping onto my face.

"I was looking for you, Commander" Angelo replied with a grin of his own.

"Is that so?" I ask looking him up and down. He was wearing his training gear. Sturdy green pants and a white sleeveless shirt. His long blond hair was pulled back, his mischievous and unexplainable gold eyes shimmered. He was taller than me 6 ft or so, with a muscular build but not obvious making him good for undercover work. He was a good friend of mine and also my third in command.

"His sire, has requested that you join him for dinner. It seems we have guests from the east." His brows pulled together at the last bit.

"Who is it?" While going through my knowledge of the eastern part of Miloray.

"The Lord Cadmus. Do you have any idea why he could be here? I mean there isn't anything that I have heard around and no border breaches have been made." He started to play with the knife that was in the sheath on his hip.

"No. And from what I know about Cadmus is that he doesn't spend much time away from his manor or comes this far inland. There has to be something going on to cause him to come here." I leaned against the wall and stared at the floor as I thought about the possibilities. "Well I guess I am going to have to dress up more than just this." Not hiding the distaste in my words.

"I figured as much so I ran by Kira's quarters to get you something. It isn't too fancy just a simple light dress that you can actually bear to be in and some leggings to wear underneath in case you need to beat up some fool." Angelo smiled and handed me the clothes.

"Thank you. Where are you headed now?"

"To my quarters and then out...With Kira." He said sheepishly.

"So are you the guy or the friend?"

"The guy, sorry that Kira tried to make you come I told her not to. But Camile said she would go with us. So I better get going" He gave me a small nod and a wave as he walked off.

"And I better get a quick bath and get going as well." I muttered as I entered the baths. "I have a feeling this is going to be a long night."
