Mistletoe, an aphrodisiac plant is said to be the manifestation of Aphrodite, the classical goddess of Love. Besides being a hemi-parasitic plant, it is considered to be the symbol of life, passion and fertility.
If a man and a woman stand under a mistletoe plant, they feel the sudden urge to feel each other and end up sharing a passionate kiss.
Such is the magic and myth of the mistletoe which everyone believes to be true.
But Annika, she was a hard nut to crack. She didn't believe in this myth while all her friends, relatives and family thought it to be true.
Annika's sister, Riya's baby shower was in progress. The whole house was decorated like a bride. The family hung beautiful, green, fresh mistletoes over the ceilings for the prosperity and fertility of the upcoming member of the family, Riya's baby.
Annika was over the moon, she was going to be aunt very soon. All the neighbour oldies were chatting and discussing about her disastrous love life. And of course, her over-protective mother Janvi defended her in every aspect.
"Oh god, when will this Annika get married and give us all a baby just like Riya?" the neighbour aunty said and chuckled.
"She will soon find herself a decent husband, don't you guys worry." Janvi added quite sternly.
"Decent? Oh stop it janvi. Your younger daughter has a spoilt love life which is even disastrous than the 2012 movie. It's just because of her teeny tiny, impulsive attitude she carries everywhere." a neighbour gave her reply.
Here you go again, Annika was fed up being discussed everywhere. Just because she didn't had a love life, people took her for granted. And what's with her attitude? It's completely fine, she said to herself. She had complete faith in God that He had made someone special for her.
"Annika, go upstairs and put these gifts in my bedroom. Would you?" Riya requested, Annika nodded and went upstairs with her hands fully packed with huge boxes.
On her way, she collided with someone at the corridor and the gifts fell from her hands. She was about to slip herself when a pair of arms grabbed her waist. She opened her eyes only to see a blue ocean raging with it's eloquent waves. It was not an ocean really but just a pair of eyes. But it seemed a large aquamarine for her.
He put her up and smiled at her. She looked here and there and started giggling softly. Both of them felt an unusual emotion. They looked at the top and witnessed a green, vivacious mistletoe plant hanging from the ceiling.
And the next moment, they were kissing madly. He pinned her to the wall and encircled her waist, she panted for breath, such was the velocity of the kiss. It was passionate. Their minds went blank, then only their souls, their bodies and their hearts were in synchronization.
"Annika!" Her mother's call restrained her from doing anything further. She looked at the blue-eyed gentleman and ran away.
She came downstairs and saw a beautiful tune playing and Riya was dancing with her husband caressing her baby bump. All the love birds and married couples joined in the dance.
"Can I have the honour miss?" A husky yet sweet voice came from behind.
Annika turned around to see that blue-eyed gentleman she kissed, standing with his hands folded across his chest. He forwarded his palm then with a slight smile.
Annika nodded and they proceeded towards the dance floor. He wrapped his hands around her waist and tugged at it gently pulling her near, he entwined his hands with hers and danced slowly to the beat.
