My alarm clock beeps in my ear waking me up to a life that I can't wait to get away from. The pebbles hit my window like every morning informing me that Cal is down there ready for our morning run. I throw the covers off swinging my feet off the bed to place them on the floor. I walk over to my closet grab some basketball shorts and my light jacket. I slip my nikes on and walk to my window. Opening it, I silently climb through to meet Cal on the dewy grass.

"Good morning sunshine!" Cal chips out slapping his hand on my back.

"Morning Cal." I say shortly ready to just get to running to release my thoughts.

"God you would thing you would be a morning person by now considering we have been doing this every morning since we were 8." He smirks starting to jog down the worn path through the woods.

"Ya no, never going to be a morning person." I say back, catching up to him and matching his speed.

Cal and I are best friends. Always have been. He is the person on the other end of the football, and the person who reminds me there is something worth living for. I am a very deep person but because of stereotypes we are stuck surrounded by shallow, fake, plastic people. Girls fall all over us and really, it's not attractive. Cal and I have similar family situations. His mother left to be with a rich man and his father turned to alcohol. My mother is a slut and will fuck anything that walks. My father will drink anything that has alcohol content. We promised each other that we wouldn't leave each others' sides and give a sense of support and home through our chaotic lives.

"Anything different happen at your place?" The question meant to start our morning therapy.

"Well my mom hasn't come home from her "girlfriend's" house yet and my dad is passed out on the couch with at least 10 bottles and 9 cans around him, so no not at all." I say light heartily knowing that this is my life. "How bout your household?" I ask back.

"Well something interesting happened, there was a strange man over around 4 in the afternoon. Expensive suit, brief case, shiny black shoes. I had no idea what was going." He replied, the confusion clear on his face.

"Was he a lawyer?"

"I think he may have been. I mean why else would someone that well dressed come to MY house to talk to MY father. It just doesn't make sense. I know he doesn't have the brains to do simple bills, so I have no idea." he replies glancing at me.

"hummmm, I wonder if he will be back today? If he is see if you can hear anything." I tell him. I want Cal to be happy, and if that means moving out into our own place we will. We have both been working 2 jobs plus high school plus our lives. We should have enough money between the two of us to finally go buy a 2 bedroom house. If we don't we can always fall on our "family".

I see the red flags and I call out to Jay, my wolf.

"Are you ready to get whooped again Jax?" Cal challenges me.

"I don't think so!" And that's when I let the feeling take over. My bones crack and break to shape the large, silent wolf I have come to know.

I have missed this Jax. Jay whispers in my mind.

We just went on a run last night Jay. What are you talking about? I reply.

I know but I just really love to run. You know that.

I know you do. We go silent and just let the woods pass by, listen to our paws thunder through the ground, and smell the pines all around us.

We finally reach the pack house and I grab a pair of shorts from the burrow in a tree and slip them on and start walking toward the back door. The children are playing tag around the yard and when they see me their faces light up with joy. Lexi, Cal's sister, runs toward me and sticks her index finger out in front of her. I realize that cam now it because  she is running away laughing.

"YOU ALL BETTER RUN, BECAUSE HERE I COME!!!" I playfully yell. Picking a slow pace I chase the kids around and Cal even decided to join in. Finally deciding that I no longer want to be it, I tag a dark haired boy, Jake I believe his name is. I turn and start to run away. When I don't hear feet coming toward me, I stop and take a breather. That is the moment I realize that all the kids have stopped and are staring at me smirking. Oh god.

You better run for your life Jax. Jay snickers.

They all start running after me. I turn and book it knowing what is coming next. Lexi out of nowhere pops out in front of me and I tumble over her not wanting to run into her. I fall to the ground and they start to pile on.

"DOG PILE!!!!!!" Someone yells.

Giggling and laughter is all around and I can't help but crack into a smile from ear to ear.

Finally, after all the kids are off, The ladies in the pack house call for Lunch. I turn to look for Cal to find that he is running with the kids to the kitchen. Laughing to myself I slowly start walking. Looking up at the sky, I can see it's cast over like always, I mean what do I expect I do live in Washington state.

I grab a sandwich when I get to the kitchen and head upstairs toward the Alpha's Office. On the fourth floor, I turn right and I come face to face with the large, dark oak double doors. The fine engravings of wolfs all over have captured my eye since I first saw them. Grabbing the handle I turn it and walk in. The large office engulfs me with bookshelves filled from top to bottom, the large couch that faces the huge windows facing the woods. The papers everywhere and the faint smell of whiskey. It surprises me that he was even here. I should already be alpha. I am more of an alpha than my father. I come here every day, I talk to the other members, I play with the children like a real alpha should. He is nothing an alpha should be. Only 23 days until I take over.

When an alpha's first son turns 18, he becomes alpha of the pack, and in 23 days I take over this pack and make it the strong pack it used to be. The Moonshine pack, blessed by the goddess, strongest pack in the USA, feared by all. I hear from the elders that this pack was a glorious pack. Nothing could touch us. 6 Generations ago however, our alpha was a coward and bowed down to anything and was weak. That has put us in a situation where only have 3/4ths of our land, our resources and our allies. 23 days till the Moonshine Pack takes a stick back.
