The Plane

It was cold again.

It had been a few months since Bucky fell things weren't the same afterward. They both changed they both felt half full, half empty.

Steve wasn't the same the fight went from stopping bullies and saving people to getting revenge and destroying Hydra. (y/n) wasn't the same her smile wasn't as bright as before her happiness wasn't contagious anymore. Bucky's fall effects them greatly which in turns affected everyone else. It was like with Bucky gone the two were reading for something that wasn't there anymore... and it hurt so much. She felt that feeling again nervous like something had going to happen something was wrong. But this time she didn't keep it to herself.

"I'm scared... I've never been this scared before" (y/n) said as she curled up against Steve tomorrow was their mission tomorrow they would be facing Red Skull and destroying Hydra.

"I know, I think everyone is" Steve kissed her forehead

"you're not?"

"no, I'm pissed. I want them dead"

When (y/n) first heard him say this it was right after Bucky's death and it scared her she flinched to hear someone she thought to be sweet and kind-hearted to say such things to spit such hate it terrified her but she eventually got used to him saying such things like this. War changed people she understood that. War changed her.

"you'll ... you'll be safe right, you'll come back y-you'll be s-safe and- and " (y/n) began to cry against his chest. Steve slowly stroked her hair and kissed her forehead

"I promise I'll come back to you I will come back to you. I love you, I love you so much"

The feeling didn't go away.

So cold.

Thanks to her feelings (y/n) disobeyed direct orders from Steve and snuck into battle with another team and Peggy. They were winning... but were they?

Steve" (y/n) cried into the radio

"yeah doll"

"you said- you said you'd come back, you said you'd be safe"

"Nah doll, I said I'd come back not that I'd be safe" (y/n) laughed and wiped her eyes

"You sneaky bastard "

"listen (y/n), I've got to put it in the water" (y/n) could hear the engines in the background she cried harder

"wait, just wait, Peggy's getting Howard" she looked back to see Peggy on the phone

"not enough time sweetheart. I've got to do it now or a lot of people are going to die"

"Please, please don't leave me, Steve please" she desperately begged into the radio

"I'm not leaving doll. Matter fact lets set up a date, remember where we first went on a date"

He wasn't going to make it.

"yes"

There wouldn't be a date.

"we'll meet next Saturday"

There would be no next Saturday.

"pick me up at seven"

She'd be waiting but he wouldn't come home.

"of Course-"

He wasn't coming.

"Steve, Steve, oh god please Steve. STEVE"

He didn't come home. He missed their date. There was no next Saturday.

She no longer felt cold she felt empty and numb. She felt nothing.
