When I actually managed to come around, I found myself in a concrete room with many other women and children. I had been chained to the wall by my leg, like any other person that was old enough to shift in the room, but the children were clearly not seen as a threat and were allowed to roam free.

I looked down to find the small boy from earlier was still with me (they clearly hadn't spared every woman and child, as he would have likely gone to his mother if she had made it). He had my scarf wrapped around his neck and he was gripping onto my leg for dear life.

"You're Beta Cameron's girl, right?" one woman asked after noticing that I was finally conscious. "Why don't you contact your pack? You might be able to save yourself." The woman was blond, but the darkness of the room, the dust, dirt and blood hid the colour's brilliance. She had striking blue eyes but her skin colour was too dirtied by mud and dust to tell you anything other than she probably had fair skin.

"I've been traveling for too long, the link is quite weak and we are probably too far away from my pack to contact them." I muttered, regretting going straight to Cameron's pack, I should have gone back to my pack for a day or two; I might not be in this situation if I'd done that.

"What about the Elder link? You're an Elder, right? You should be able to contact them!" She said. They were clearly hoping that I would also be able to help them.

"It's a lot more complicated than that, there are specific times and days when you can use the link, it is only used in emergencies when you are trying to contact an Elder not when they are trying to contact you." I tried. "It's hard to explain..." I sighed.

I looked down at my leg, remembering the wound. It had healed well, despite the jagged scar, it wasn't painful, but it would eventually reform into smooth skin.

"You shouldn't have come." She sighed. "You would have been fine if you hadn't come. You would have been fine! It's all Alpha's fault!" She exclaimed, seemingly aggravated by the thought of the man.

"What did he do?" I asked, looking at the girl with a new found intrigue.

"He thought he could get away with stealing from the funds the Black Shawl Pack transfers to the Elders through us." She explained. "He thought that because they never personally deal with other wolves that he would be fine..."

"Oh, I didn't realise Black Shawl Pack did anything much for the werewolf community other than attack the packs who anger them." I muttered, looking around the concrete room.

"Yeah, they actually donate a lot of money and provisions, sometimes they will send wolves to aid other packs." She said. "They are just very secretive, the Alpha hasn't found his mate and it is a well known fact that an Alpha is stronger once he has found his mate."

"I thought the Alpha was that older one, the elder who never turns up to the meeting?" I inquired, knowing a little about the story of him hunting for a mate, but that was centuries ago.

"Apparently, he's nearly 1,500." She said as my head began to clear and I remembered more of the horror stories. "Yes, he still hasn't found a mate. One of his pack members is a high ranking Zeta though, you might know them?" She said, probably remembering that I was also a high ranking Zeta. "Don't you guys regularly meet or something?" I nodded.

"What happened when they attacked?" I asked.

"They came suddenly." A voice from across the room said. "No one was expecting it. They weren't supposed to know. Many shifted out of fear, but all who did were killed." A woman said, coughing on the dust and dry air before continuing. "They took anyone that surrendered or was to weak to fight and locked us up here. There's more cells, but I don't know how many." The woman who had spoken was slouched in the corner. It was too dark to make out anything other than the fact that she probably had dark brown or black hair.
