Javier stood outside the gates of Richmond, waiting for David. He leaned against one of the old broken down buildings as he waited, his arms crossed and his head rested against mossy stone. He sighed deeply, thinking of how he got here to this point. It took so much loss and pain but it seemed that times would be better. At least for now. All he really cared about is that he had his family together. Save for Mariana. They all grieved for her still but Javier couldn't imagine her living in this world, so maybe it was for the best.

Lost in his head, Javier didn't notice David approaching and jumped when he felt an arm wrap around his waist. He smiled softly after a moment and leaned into his older brother's touch.

"Sorry for startling you," David said with a chuckle and a tone that told Javier he wasn't sorry whatsoever.

Javier rolled his eyes. "Shut up, asshole," he returned and pushed the older male away with a playful glare.

David snorted and shook his head before motioning his brother to follow him, which Javier did immediately. They would always go off on their own, even before the apocalypse. As much as they fought and snapped at each other, tearing at each other's throats, they were also a close pair. It confused most people who knew them well. It confused even them but they made what they had work.

It was after Javier got kicked out of the league when the fighting got worse but it also brought them closer. David had left the military and Javier didn't have baseball anymore. They had time together for once. Through their frustrations with each other, they realized what they felt was much more. It scared them both, David mostly since he was married and had two kids. Javier, on the other hand, just let it go but it was always a lingering thought in the back of his head.

After their reunion at Richmond, however, Javier couldn't keep it quiet. He knew Kate had feelings for him, knew how she wanted to ditch David but Javier refused. However she ultimately left David, he didn't care. He wasn't about to leave the one person in his life who could make him feel the things he did. Despite it all, David was the one person that was there. He was his. Kate wouldn't change that.

Morally, this was wrong but neither of them cared. The brothers knew what they were doing, how the others would react- it didn't stop them. It's why they would leave Richmond for hours, and even days, at a time. They would always come back a little bruised from fighting muertos but they were alive.

They always went to a place a ways away from Richmond. It was a small little cabin like home that the brothers found one day. They fixed it up and cleared it of the dead and it became their own little hideout.

The moment they walked in and the door was closed, Javier's lips were on David's, the male kissing his brother deeply with a hint of desperation. It had been awhile since they'd been able to get away and it frustrated Javier in more ways than one. David was quick to return the kiss and his arms wound themselves around Javier's waist, pulling him closer.

"You get so needy, don't you, Javi?" David murmured, moving his lips to Javier's neck and Javier hummed as he felt his older brother kiss the skin there.

"It's been weeks, David," he replied, wrapping his arms around David's neck as the other male lifted him and carried him to the bed in the corner. "I am but a man."
