March 17th, 2017Paige was walking near the lake's shore and decided to go for a swim. She went in about chest deep to get herself used to the temperature. When she dove in she was surprised of how well she could see in the water. She started swimming further out from the shore and went deeper until she was a few feet from the lake floor. She was admiring the beauty of the lake and saw an underwater standing stone and wanted to go over to it but first she needed air and swam upward. When she went back under she went towards the standing stone. It had multiple runes carved in it but the water and algae wore it away so she could not tell what exactly was carved on it. She traced her pointer finger along the patterns and noticed the standing stone was balancing on stacked rocks and didn't look really stable. She decided to leave it alone and was about to swim off when her foot hit a branch that was wedged in under the standing stone and caused it to become loose. It fell quickly on her back and pinned her to the lake floor. She panicked trying to get out from under it she started thinking about when her mom tried to drown her in their pool when she was eight. Her sight started to blur as she faded from consciousness from losing to much oxygen. She remembered seeing someone in the distance swimming towards her.
Fossegrim was swimming towards where Paige was he could sense her in the water and decided that this would be a good time to try to actually meet her. Then, about twenty feet away he saw the standing stone collapse followed by a sediment cloud, he could see something moving around under it and realized it was Paige. He swam over to her and reached his hand out to her and tried to pull her unconscious body out from under it when that failed he focused on the stone and with all his strength his thin, frail, body could muster he lifted the stone up and held it with his right shoulder as he pulled her out with his left arm. He grabbed her and and swam up to the surface and dragged her to the shore and laid her down. When he saw that she was still breathing he sighed in relief and sat down by her. He brushed the hair out of her face, he thought that it would be best for her not to see him right now believing it would probably be to much for her since she did almost drown. She started coughing and he perked up from his thoughts and ran into the lake and went under.
Paige coughed up water and opened her eyes. She was laying on one of the lake's beaches and looked around for the person that saved her she looked at the water and saw ripples in one spot like something had jumped in. Whatever or whoever it was that saved her she was grateful. Maybe it was the Nøkken her aunt would always tell her about or even Fossegrim himself that helped her.
Fossegrim could see Paige get up and slowly walk back to the cabin rubbing her back. Maybe tomorrow would be a good time introduce himself.
Meanwhile Paige thought tomorrow would be okay to try to find her rescuer.
