Chapter 9:

*Quinn’s POV*

So many memories had come back. Very, very old memories. Memories of things that would’ve seemed impossible just a couple of hours ago. They were so vivid, it seemed difficult to believe they could have ever been forgotten. And it hurt.

“Now Doctor!” I had been trying to get the Doctor to toss me his sonic screwdriver so I could lock the doors before any Cybermen arrived. He just stayed where he was, looking shocked. “Doctor!” He snapped out of it and tossed the sonic screwdriver across the room. I soniced the doors so they would stay shut even when the Cybermen got here, at least for a little bit.

I ran over to the monitors where he was. “You know, the look of confusion on your face is priceless.”  He didn’t look particularly offended but at least he responded, “Um...okay. Uh, you were imprisoned. The Cybermen, they- look I think you should be doing the explaining, if it’s not too much trouble.”

“In a bit, but first I assume you’re in here to shut down the ship yes? So what’s stopping you?” He turned back to face the monitors rather than questioning me further. “I can get the security down and I can access the power but not at the same time. I can’t get to the power then.”

I looked at the lines of computer code across the screen. “Since when does the Doctor say ‘I can’t’?” I asked, turning to face him. “Since it actually happened.” he replied, almost childish sounding. I sighed, “Okay, so it’s not possible with one person, makes sense. But now there’s two of us!” I set to work taking down security before he could reply. “Wait Quinn, you’re sure you know what to-” I interrupted him, “Yes Doctor, I know what to do now.” He nodded with understanding , catching my full meaning.

With the memories also came knowledge. Centuries of it, of history, of science, of mathematics. A more advanced understanding. A knowledge that more primitive races couldn’t ever hope to comprehend.

“I can continuously enter the commands necessary to keep the firewalls down which will allow you to access all of the main controls. You could make the Cybermen dance if you wanted to.” I looked to the Doctor just long enough for him to chuckle before we both returned to the matter at hand.

An alarm began to blare, and red lights were flashing overhead. “Ignore it, keep working.” said the Doctor. There was a pounding at the doors that sounded like the walls were going to cave in from it. “Doctor it’s the Cybermen, we must have accidently alerted them to the security breach.” He didn’t look away from the screens, “So work faster!”

We were both concentrating too much to focus on the doors. Even the slightest distraction could end it all. The Cybermen would break in eventually, so we had to be faster.  The race was on, between us and an army of killer not-really-robots. I turned around for just a split-second to see sparks flying from the doors. They’d break through any second.

I had no clue how much progress the Doctor had made. “Just a second!” he said. “We don’t have a second!” I shouted. Just then, the doors flew apart and the stomping of the Cybermen filled the room.
