Chapter I

Police Awards Ceremony

"This last award tonight goes to an officer that have demonstrated an outstanding act of leadership and respect for not only the law, but those around him. He exemplifies an extraordinary ethical character and exhibits model performance. This officer goes beyond the expectation of his job, without expectancy of acknowledgement. For those reasons, this officer is well deserving of this award. Tonight, I present the award for Officer of the Year to Officer Jeremy Wells."

Jeremy stood in place for a moment, stun. He knew that he was going to be given an award, but he never expected Officer of the Year.

"Get your ass up there, man," his best friend and partner, Devin, whispered as he nudged him forward.

A loud applause resounded around him. He looked out into the crowd and saw a familiar, beautiful, brown face mouthing, "I love you."

Jeremy quickly composed himself and walked across the stage to the podium where his Captain stood. He shook hands with Captain Montgomery and grab the award with the other hand.

"I expect even greater things from you in the future, Officer Wells." Captain Montgomery stated.

Jeremy smiled at his Captain, "Thanks, sir."

"I am so proud of you." Alyssa whispered to Jeremy.

He wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her into him as he smiled from ear to ear.

"Thank you, baby." He whispered back.

He kissed her gently on the lips.

Holding his plaque for Officer of the Year in his hand was so surreal to Jeremy. He thought that being on the force for just two years made him only eligible for a medal of bravery or valor. But to be awarded officer of the year was a phenomenal feeling.

"This is unbelievable," he stated looking at his award.

"That's because you never have faith. I always had faith in you."

Jeremy's eyes shifted from the material object to the beautiful woman standing before him. The fact that he could share such a moment with the love of his life made it more special.

"Thanks for being here for me, Lyssa."

"I can't imagine being any other place." Alyssa smiled.

Jeremy felt like a little school boy whose heart skipped a beat from being next to his crush. That's what Alyssa did to him. He couldn't help pulling her in and kissing her again.

"Ow!" A loud catcall came from behind the couple.

Jeremy knew who it was without looking. He groaned as he ended the kiss with Alyssa.

Alyssa giggled as she wiped her lipstick from his lips.

"Man of the hour. He gets the award and the beautiful lady. What I wouldn't give to be you right now, man." Devin wink and grin, while giving Alyssa's body a once over.

Jeremy rolled his as he pulled Alyssa closer to him.

Alyssa shook her head and laughed, "Hey Dev."

"I don't think Tiff would like you hitting on other women. And if you want to keep your teeth I would advise you to stop looking at my fiancée like that." Jeremy stated half-jokingly.

Devin held up his hands in surrender. "I'm just having fun. I came over here to congratulate you on the big award."

"Thanks, man."
