Same as last chapter; (Y/N) = your name and so forth.----------
"Go on ahead, I'll catch up!" You separated from your patrol, determined to find one thing.
Quietly, you darted from bush to bush, tree root to tree root, occasionally stopping to open your mouth to scent for what you were trying to find.
After a bit, you got frustrated and decided to make your way back to your patrol, hoping they wouldn't be suspicious about you being gone too long. But as you turned to walk back, you caught a glimpse of gray tabby fur rustling through a patch of leaves, completely oblivious to your presence.
Slowly, you crept closer, attempting to be completely silent. Suddenly, the cat stiffened.
You froze, quickly making up escape routes in your head in case they turned around.
Wait, I forgot. He can scent me even before I can scent him, regardless of the wind direction. You sat down, accepting your fate, preparing to be scolded by the medicine cat.
"You know," he turned around, "I could hear you and scent you before I even got to this marigold patch, (Y/N)."
You flattened your ears in embarrassment. Standing, you prepared to run after your patrol.
"Where do you think you're going?" Jayfeather narrowed his blind eyes, almost seeming as if he could see you, clear as any cat.
You ignored the ripple of feeling in your fur as you sat down again. "I-I was on patrol..." You stammered, realizing how stupid it sounded only after you said it.
Jayfeather flicked his tail in dismissal. "Who cares? Any cat that sits spying on the medicine cat should repay by helping them. Here, carry these." He flung a few herbs at you.
Your fur felt hot in embarrassment. "You know about that?" You asked sheepishly. Pawing the herbs into a pile, you avoided Jayfeather's gaze, even though he couldn't see you either way.
"Of course I do. Just because I'm blind doesn't mean I can't sense when I'm being watched. And (Y/N), you're not exactly the quietest cat in the Clan."
You sat up straight, bristling with indignation. "Hey, just because a cat with super-senses caught me doesn't mean that I'm loud!"
Jayfeather brought his gaze to yours, a purr rising in his throat. "No, maybe not, but unless you want your patrol to find you and see what we're doing here, I suggest you keep it down."
You eyed him warily. "And what exactly are we doing here?"
"Collecting herbs." He flicked his ear.
Well, he may be collecting herbs, but I'm not.
You turned your head towards him, only to find him staring thoughtfully at the golden flowers in front of him.
"So, what are we going to tell my patrol when they ask me where I was?"
Jayfeather didn't look up. "Tell them what we're doing. Collecting herbs."
You stood up, turning towards him. "Well, why am I so special? If it were any other cat, you'd have sent them back to their patrol by now. I thought you found everyone annoying." You winced, realizing that your words sounded harsh, and prepared for Jayfeather to snap at you.
You could feel his pelt growing hot as he ducked his ears.
You lowered your head. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean for it to—"
