The silence woke me. There was no birds chirping or parents yelling at their kids or cars driving. It was just the silence that scared me. As I pulled out my phone to check how late I was for work this time, I heard a deafening scream.

I ran down 3 flights of apartment stairs while attempting to put my hair into a ponytail. When I got to the 4th floor. There he was, Derian Gull. I got there in time to pull the bloody knife out of his chest but i didn't get there fast enough to make his daughter stop crying or to save his brutal death.

A few hours later my boss came to my apartment and asked how it happened. I told him it was a suicide when really, I knew it wasn't true. Even though i got there late, I saw the whole thing happen.

"Anyone is capable of murder Lilia, how do you know this was a suicide," Coughed my co-worker and best friend Kendall. "for all we know Derian's daughter might've killed him."

"Enough Kendall," I barked "I told sheriff that so he would get off my back, I don't know how this happened or who caused it but all i know is that he didn't kill himself."

"Okay I'm sorry, but don't you think he will know that you were lying? Won't you get fired?" she announced in a taunt voice.

"He's not the detective, I am."

"Okay fine but if you get fired i'm not covering up for you."

"Just shut up and come on, we have to get these fingerprints to the station then to the lab."

As we passed each room, I noticed that there was more silence then before.

"Is it because of his death?" Kendall whispered, its like she could read my mind.

   "I believe so." I nodded

As we walked up to the elevator, with a suitcase and notebooks, there was a man I have never seen before. He was a tall figure with a sharp jaw line and navy blue eyes. He looked down at me and smirked.

Just like every elevator ride there was silence. Then the tall man spoke while we hit the lobby,
"Until we meet again."

"What?" a lady answered. Her name is Colleen White, local city news reporter, everyone knows her but doesn't recognize her.

Two of three teenage kids froze and another chuckled, "It's just a joke guys don't be pussies." he added. Another guy and a girl followed behind.

When me and Kendall got to the station there was something in the air that wasn't there before.
Everyone usually talked about their day or bank robberies cause that's all that happened in this small town. Today was different though, no one knew Darien except his family and close friends, and me, it was confusing how everyone cared about him now and not before he died.

I jumped as a lady tapped me on my shoulder and spoke to me, "I'm so sorry Lilia, I know you and him were close, it's such a tragedy." she curtsied and left.

"No one knows me so why are they acting like they do?" I asked Kendall, she shrugged and we went up the stairs to our bosses office.

"Here are the finger prints and blood samples Mr. Rivers," Kendall handed him,"Do you want to hold on to them or do you want me to run them?"

"I don't care what you do with them now leave." He shooed.

As we left we asked our secretary what was wrong with him. "We never have murders here in Lake Shore, I think he is trying to process what's going on."

"Thank you Katy." we replied.

As we went down the elevator that lead to the lab, I saw the guy there again. This time he had a name tag that read: Harol Lei.
We waited for the elevator to open so we could step inside. When the three of us, Kendall, Harol, and I were inside, the door was about to close until we saw someone's hand slip through the elevator.

"Sorry, sorry." She apologized. It was Colleen.

"Where's the rest of the gang?" I added while we're were sitting in pin dropping silence.
