Unexpected Baby

"Glad to see you too sis" Mattie exclaimed. 

"What are you doing here Mattie?" Carm asked.

"I was in the neighborhood and stopped to say hello," she replied with a playful smile on her lips.

"There is always something with you when you stop to say 'hello' Mattie. So, what do you want?" 

"Come on sis. Calm down. I am really here to see how you and Laura are doing."

I told Mattie not to worry about Carmilla because she was on edge. She was still thinking that her mother had something to do with my pregnancy. The more I thought about it, the more sense it made. I mean, we did stop trying a few months ago. It was as surprising to me as it was for Carm. 

"How are you doing Laura?" Mattie's voice woke me up from my thoughts.

"Fine, fine I guess."

I was far away from fine. Carm started to affect me with her worries. What if the child inside me was evil? What if it was cursed? Was it even a child growing inside of me? I gasped at that thought.

"What's wrong Laura?" Carm was already beside me as I was trying to find something to hold on to.

"What if it is not even a child I am carrying Carm?"

Mattie looked at us in confusion. 

"Child?.... How?.... When?..." She failed to express herself in complete sentences. It seemed that her eyes grew bigger the longer she stared at Carm and I. 

"Let's go sit in the living room," Carm suggested.

I could not utter a word the whole time Carmilla was explaining to Mattie everything that happened a couple hours ago. 

"So, the doctor had no idea how it happened?" She asked.

"No." Carmilla exclaimed.  And Laura is two weeks pregnant, which coincide with the date my mom did a pap-test on her. Weird much!" 

"You're right, that's pretty disturbing. I cannot believe that Mother is here!"

"What? You didn't know?" I could feel Carmilla's surprise at hearing Mattie's words.

"I swear I did not know. The situation does look fishy with her presence here.  Do you guys want me to talk to her?"

"Please do and see what you can get out of her. You were always her favorite. Maybe she will tell you her evil plan."

"Alright. I will see what I can do, although I cannot promise you anything."

"You trying is already enough Mattie," I managed to say. "Thank you."

"Anytime." She said and left.

I was praying with all my heart that Mattie would discover something that would calm down Carm and I.

"Carm? Laura?"

I heard Mattie calling us downstairs when she came back after two hours. What could have possibly take this long? I thought. Carmilla tried to get me to eat something, but I could not swallow anything. I knew she was more worried than me, and yet she was trying her best to take care of me. That is one of the reasons I fell deeply in love with her. She is tough but she is also the sweetest person ever. 

When she saw that nothing worked to keep the bad thoughts away from me, she proposed to go to bed and cuddle. She knew I liked to be spooned. She was still holding me when Mattie stormed into our bedroom. 

"I couldn't get anything out of her, but by her look, I'd say she has something to do with your pregnancy Laura."

"Oh God!" I covered my mouth and fought the tears that were forming. Carm was holding me now like her life depended on it.

"Are you sure Mattie?" She asled

"It is unfortunately what I observed cherie (darling)."

"I can't...I can't...I can't go on without knowing whether or not your mom is somehow involve in this. I cannot even imagine..." I broke down in Carmilla's arms not finishing my sentence. 

"Sshhh, it's gonna be alright cupcake. We will get our answers one way or another." She said to comfort me but I knew that her words would not take effect at this instant. All I could think about was that thing inside of me. She kept saying that everything would be okay while swaying me like a baby she was putting to sleep. 

We sat in silence for awhile before Mattie jumped off the king size bed, like she had an epiphany moment.

"I do know how we can know if the bay is safe," she said.

"IF it is a baby Mattie," I implied.

"Let's stay positive babe. Do tell how we can do it sis."

As Mattie was explaining to Carm whom they would have to get in contact with to confirm whether or not I am carrying a child, I felt a little relieved and hoped that the pregnancy was all safe.  But even if it was, someone would still have inseminated me. Who could that be?
