Light as a feather

As I walked out of the restaurant, the chauffeur tried to stop me. It just took a little fire to the leg of his pants to stop him. I caught a cab and started to head home. I'll never be able to escape Spencer and his wildly reckless idea because of his ability, and it's because of his ability that I have to try to lead a normal life. Over the next couple of weeks more hellbound made the news as freak accidents kept happening around the city, all while in transport to a hellbound containment center they were busted out and dropped off the face of the earth. The manhunt was ongoing for a week on each until they stopped completely. Where was I during all of this? I was working, paying my rent, watching the news, and, believe it or not, dating a couple of guys. None of them worked out though, my mind was distracted with another man, Spencer. I could've sworn that I saw him in the corner of my eye everywhere I went, work, the bus, everywhere. Finally I wanted to send a message to him that I wanted to meet. While we were surviving on the streets I would make a flame in the shape of a feather to cheer him up or to provide warmth, it would take a minute but I'm sure that I can make one near him if I focused. I sat down on my floor and thought about Spencer. His raven black hair, beautiful eyes, his amazing smile, and suddenly a channel opened, I could see him in his apartment meditating with someone. I can't say that I wasn't jealous but I continued to focus. I willed the feather into existence in front of him, at first he didn't notice, that is until I made it burn brighter. He opened his eyes and was surprised to see a burning feather. Perspiration was dripping down my face as I pushed one last burst of light from it and had to close the channel. I collapsed onto my back and breathed heavy gasps of air into my lungs. "I'm really out of practice." I said to the room around me. I tried to get up but was too drained, I had to lay in the center of my loft apartment for what feels like forever before I could actually stand up and get water. I decided I needed a nap and laid down on my couch and fell asleep.
