Back Than Sooner Expected

As me and Mia stood under a canopy to shelter us from the rain, I looked at Mia and suddenly had the urge to laugh, the people inside the shop thinking we were crazy, but we knew we weren't, and that's what made us laugh even more.

Best friends always have that way of just knowing what you're thinking by looking at you, and it's miraculous with how well Mia can read me, as I was still chuckling from the thought of us completely forgetting it was going to rain, I pulled Mia with a sudden jerk at the arm, running down the sidewalk with a wide smile across my face. I didn't care about the rain puddles splashing up into my shoes, or that running down the sidewalk while all other things raced past us, or that the fact this is the last time to do this was with my best friend.

We had finally reached the mall entrance, the inside being illuminated with somewhat golden light, the glass ceilings above being scattered with rain. Both Mia and I were soaking from head to toe, walking back and forth through the huge mall compartment.

As we were walking side by side, I noticed a beautiful couple who were laughing and sitting at one of the metal tables, where the woman was wearing black pants with a lavish red and grey plaid shirt, matching with black short boots. The man was handsome and had dark black hair which was fixed and gelled back, while wearing almost skin colored crease cut pants with a black shirt that was half tucked into his pants. I glanced at the couple while before they came out of view, I had a crush of my own. His name was Ryan Boskey, and he was absolutely perfect, he went to high school with me before he had to move, I don't know where to although.

I had lost my train of thought and slowed my pace from Mia, and noticed myself drifting from her side and quickly caught up before she had noticed I was thinking, but it was to late. "What are you thinking about Ana?," it still always surprised me.

"what are you talking about?"

I said as innocently as possible, "come on, I know that face like the back of my hand" Mia said while looking back and laughing, the tone sounding as if she was saying I should know better, because she was my best friend. "It was that guy Ryan you were thinking about again weren't you?" turning around and giving me a smirk, she knew anyway but she was just teasing me, "fine maybe I was, how could I not think about him!" I was frustrated because she could read my mind so well. I shook off the heavy chested feeling about kept walking until we reached a jewelry store, entering to see a ear piercing stand to our right. I had my ears pierced when I was only three years old, weirdly enough at this same exact place, with the same person as well who was also getting her ears pierced, Mia. I still strangely remember Mia gripping the baby blue stuffed teddy bear, squinting her eyes shut and kicking her feet as they dangled from the tall white chair.

I laughed to myself as Mia held up a golden flower crown from across the store, waving the crown in the air for a brief second before she realized that she would never buy or wear it, and out the crown back on its shelf. Mia insisted on buying a pair of sterling silver earrings for me, I had kept eyeing a certain pair every time we would pass them. I never wore earrings, they always bothered me when I would sleep, but why not? This would be the last time to wear such a thing.

Mia was finally done with shopping mostly for me and moved along to different stores throughout the mall. But minutes later, we decided to leave for home.

As we made our way across the street, I glimpsed a person who looked so familiar, but then I knew exactly who it was... None other than the very guy Mia was teasing me about, Ryan. He was back, and sooner than expected.
