"Shh" Ruby hushed her sixteen year old niece, Lucy. She didn't want her constant sobs to draw the zombies to their location.
Hiding in a closet isn't the best option but she panicked and couldn't think of anything better.Sweat trailed down her forehead to her neck. Her heart was beating fast against her chest and she kept on looking through the holes for an opening to run.
She had never been this frightened her whole life. She didn't have anything to fight the zombies with. The closet was so tight and hot.
Lucy cried silently and all she could think about was a week ago. Her mum, dad and little brother sat in front of the TV, laughing.
They weren't laughing because of the TV, but because her dad was making fun of his little sister. She had just come back from London and she didn't waste time to jump on a bed and sleep. Now, her family, her friends, her neighbours, they were all gone. Tears welled up in her eyes again and she let them out.
Her aunt and her were the only ones remaining.
She looked out the openings of the closet and saw her parents' room. This made her remember the times when her mum and dad hugged her goodbye as she left the house for school.
She always felt embarrassed about that, but now, she would give anything to hug them again.
"Shh" Ruby repeated when Lucy's sobs began again. She wanted her to be quiet but she also couldn't help but think about what she was going through.
Ruby had this i-don't-care attitude. She couldn't count the number of times she had run away from home and never stayed in any place for long.
All she could do was pat Lucy on her back and give her an apologetic smile.
Just then, a zombie limped into the room.
Lucy's eyes widened and her breath quickened. She felt she was going to die, she didn't want to become one of them.
Ruby noticed her tension and she squeezed her hand, putting her finger to her lips.
"Be still, keep quiet and try not to breathe" she whispered to her and Lucy nodded.
The zombie made eye contact with them and limped closer, stopping right in front of them. His eyes were white and his mouth hung open, revealing blood mixed with saliva. His whole body looked completely white and his legs were bent in an awkward manner.
Moans came out of its mouth as it continued to stare. His face was ugly and black holes surrounded it. He looked six foot and was skinny.
Ruby and Lucy both held their breath and Lucy shut her eyes. The zombie stayed for a while, looking at them, sending shivers down their spine . It later turned, which felt like an eternity and limped away.
They both released their breath and looked at one another before releasing their hands.
Some time passed and no zombie had passed by the door.
"You ready?" Ruby asked her niece but she shook her head, no. Ruby frowned and draged her out " come on, we can't stay there forever.
They entered the long corridor and turned right towards the way to the kitchen to escape through the front door. As they turned left towards the kitchen, they were greeted by about ten nasty looking zombies.
The zombies slowly turned their heads and spotted them. Slowly, they all limped towards them.
"Run!" Ruby shouted and they ran the other way towards the left side of the corridor to go through the back door. But before they reached it, they saw a few other zombies limping towards them.
