Meline Opal
10:47 AM
I heard Kyle yell at me from the living room as I pulled out the ridiculously hot popcorn from the microwave and poured it into a bowl, the steaming hot heat burning my hands just a little as I did.
“Come on Meline! It’s starting.”
I heard Ryder make an decent attempt at pissing off Kyle as well, “Phrasing.” And then a distant Smack! “Hey.” I could hear Ryder yell back at Kyle.
I laughed as I walked in, hearing the last commercial for some glorified energy drink come on before the actual program.
“What are we watching?”
“The best show ever obviously.” Kyle said as Archer came on, the theme music accompanied by the frustrated groans of all the girls there.
Our entire group of friends was there, Ryder, who’s house we were at, sat on the couch with the other guys, who were Kyle, David, and Jonas. Ryder was a pretty cool guy, with things always going on at his place, whether it was full scale house parties or one to two person hang-outs. He did have a small habbit of messing with each and every one of us however.
Ryder’s best friend was probably Kyle, an English kid with a troubled past that he didn’t talk about much. Kyle was known as somewhat crazy - hell, we all were in some ways-. He made up for it by being the member of the group that always knew a good thing to say, able to make us others laugh.
Jonas was a funny Asian kid with a weird hipster taste in everything from YouTube videos to music. He had a dirty and often disgusting sense of humour that made him a great, but often annoying person to have around.
David was a young looking kid that stood at a small stature but was ridiculously strong for his size. He was an avid participant in parkour meaning he could get around pretty much anywhere. Of course, he also did have his lazy side, everyone knew well that he loved his laptop like it was his child, and he took that laptop almost everywhere.
Sitting on the opposite couch were the girls, Rose, Vivienne, and I. Rose was an amusing ‘fun-sized’ girl that was definitetly a good person to talk to, although she was prone to mood-swings and was often over-emotional.
Vivienne was a smart, quiet, shy girl. That being said, she totally changed once you got to know her, becoming a hilariously naive humorist, but the type that you could do nothing but love at all times anyway.
While Archer was definitely more of a guy’s show, there were still some funny parts that made even us girls laugh. I was actually getting into it when a newscast from an anchor we had all seen many times took over the screen. She had been assigned the job of updating the population about revolutionary modern medicine, breakthroughs and all that. Usually she had one of those fake newscaster smiles, but not his time, she had a grim look on her face, a lot more serious than the afternoon news lady usually was. We all groaned a little when she appeared on screen, all of us knew well enough what was happening, and didn't want another update.
Many top tier scientists around the world had worked on the H1N1 disease since it struck up with it's deadly side effects over the past year or so. They were working to develop a cure and imunization, and they did eventually make the imunization, but while they attempted to create the disease's cure, things didn't exactly work out how the would have liked. That was a long time ago now; they tried to hide their mistakes at first, thinking probably that they could snuff out the problem before it got out of hand. Of course, it didn't work like that and only a few weeks ago, everyone with an electronic device in front of them found themselves watching the same newscaster that possesed Ryders Tv screen now. It was only to warn people about the mistakes the scientists made, but she experetly tried to hide it by adding all these other medicinal updates from the CDC and similar sources.
