zero | prologue
"I'm sorry, I didn't catch your name," he turned back to her, pausing in his tracks to wonder. His thick accent parted from his lips, his facial scruff a shadow against his pale face. Her eyebrows rose in question. He could hide his unmistakable accent behind simple one word answers, but some words his heritage couldn't help but cling to.
As her lips parted to answer she couldn't help but think that yes, it all came down to two words.
"I'm Amanda," she could've said, and it would've spoken of millions upon millions of fireflies swallowed up in the night, a flickering flame against the impossible-ness of such nothingness. Possibilities. But instead the chapstick smeared over the flesh of her lips stuck her bottom lip to her top and she breathed
"I'm yours."
