A new year has arrived - 2018. 365 days left to the next year - 2019. I hope you guys had a blast in 2017 or had a better year than 2016 at least. If you didn't, don't worry, you are not alone. I had a 2017 that was worse than 2016. My 2017 is kinda filled with sad and angry moments, with very few short happy moments and I am very determined to make 2018 a better year. I hope you can make this year a good one too.

New Year is a fresh start of a year. Yup, we are back to square one and we still have 365 days to go before we complete a new year again. Well, there is no need for counting the number of days remaining til 2019 since time flies so fast. In the blink of an eye, you might see yourself in 1st January 2019, realising that a new year has just started. This is normal and it happens every year.

There is something that lots of people would love to do during the start of a new year - New Year's Resolutions. Resolutions are basically goals that are created by us who want to complete certain tasks. The rewards of completing these resolutions are not only just the things done but also the sweet feeling of accomplishment from having the resolutions completed. Some people love to say "New Year. New Things." and from there, some people will think that in a new year, new goals have to be created and done which is basically "New Year. New Goals". Even I used to have this mindset after hearing people adopting it.

However, it is still a good thing to create these resolutions since it can help you to give you the drive to complete some certain stuff that you have been thinking for a long time. Sometimes, these goals can give you a direction that you are lacking or seeking for that year and maybe they can be the push you need to do it. It is sad to say that these goals might not work for everyone as certain people might not actually be driven to reach their goals or even start to doing anything for it. What's worse is that some might even tend to do thing opposite to their goals like gaining weight instead of losing weight.

I hate to say this but I am one of the certain people that actually have written out or thought of their New Year's Resolutions or any goals but will not be able to complete it or even make a single progress. If I actually completed any resolution, it will be either I have a super huge motivation (maybe a certain person or event) to do it or it is just a miracle for me to finish it. This is because I am normally a lazy person who procrastinates most of the times. Right now, I am shocked that I am actually typing this out and share my thoughts but the motivation behind this is definitely not from a person, but it is from myself. (Hehe XD)

After all, I will still strongly encourage you readers to make resolutions regardless of when you decided to so (start of the new year or ending of a year etc.), just that for people who do things opposite to their goals, please "reverse" your goals so that you will actually the goals you actually intended to do. Even you are among the group of people who procrastinate or lack the drive or push to complete the resolutions, just find a motivation and reason to do the resolution. Anyways, there are always a certain reason behind why you want to do anything.

Let's move on to another part of New Year but something that happens just before every New Year - the countdown. Yes, the countdown to the brand new year. Everyone always countdown to the next year. I have no idea why we do this actually and yet I also follow everyone and just count the last seconds before the new year with my sparkling eyes (a bit of exaggerating) along with the anticipation of an awesome new year that outshines the previous year which is most probably s**t. However, I think that this countdown to the new year is an indication of the everyone's excitement of the new year that is full of countless new probabilities. Do you think so? Or is just that you just hate the year you have gone through as you have gone through lots of bulls**t and suffering (regardless of emotionally or physically)? Feel free to put down your thoughts about it if you have something different.

Countdowns to the new year might not be great to friends or families who live in different timezones as there will be a time difference between each countdowns. Firstly, it might be weird to do a few countdowns to a new year when you are already in a new year or do so when you are still in the previous year and counting down to the new year not in your location (FeelsBadMan ;-;). Next, it is always better to count down to the new year at the same time with your loved ones or friends. Too bad, the Earth have to be split in different timelines since the mighty hot big Sun revolves around our awesome planet that houses many humans like you and me. If the blazing hot Sun is able to appear next to the whole Earth and disappear from the whole planet and not just revolve around it.

New Year's countdowns are inevitable in most television channels where they have a program at the last few hours of the current year to celebrate for the end of the current year and the arrival of the new year. These programs are mostly filled with performances done by singers and actors, which will excite and hype everyone for the new mysterious year. Not only that, these programs can be a good way to get lots of advertising revenues with the promise of lots of audiences watching it. Money money bills yo.

Let's focus a bit back to the topic - New Year. New Year - the 1st day of January of each year? Isn't it?

The answer is no for some races. One good example for it is the Chinese Calendar. I am a Chinese and I will tell you more about it. The Chinese Calendar starts later, normally during January or February (For 2018, it will be on 16 February 2018). On the start of the new Chinese Year, we will celebrate Chinese New Year which is similar to the New Year that we are celebrating for now. This festive period normally lasts for a few days (three days for my country. ;-;) but it should last for 15 days. We have countdowns for Chinese New Year and also goodies to eat and red packets to received (I cherish every single red packet). I will not go into detail for now, maybe during Chinese New Year.

So, 2017 has flew past everyone with us counting down to the new 2018 and also with the fireworks shooting out and exploding into the night sky as a mean of celebrating of the New Year. I may have not typed/wrote much about the topic of New Year and may deviate away from it. Despite so, let's strive to start this 2018 year right! Happy New Year!

Lastly, I would like to thank you readers for taking your time to read this first part of this series. And yes, with the end of this first chapter, this journey of thoughts has just started.
