two

Kara

My grandpa introduced my brothers and I to two guys who apparently lived next door. One had blonde-brown hair, whatever you call that hair color and the other one had dark brown- almost black. I didn't meet the guy that I saw on the balcony though. My grandpa went on about how great the two guys are- Riley and Connor. He said they were immensely great in music, they were funny, all that stuff.

I really liked Riley, he jokes a lot. Connor does too. We only met them today since they came over to have their 'weekly chat' with my grandpa. I guess they're that close. They even call him gramps now.

Right now, my parents were out and my grandma was making snacks for all of us. We all sat in the living room, my grandpa talking to the four boys when he mentioned a name.

"Where's Toby? I haven't seen him." My grandpa turned to Riley and Connor. They both looked at each other for a second and turned back to my grandpa.

"He hasn't reall-" Connor was interrupted by the doorbell. I stood up to get it knowing that none of them would.

I opened the door, welcomed by a smiling face. He looked like Riley was the first thing that came into mind. He looked at me confused for a little bit but soon smiled again and stuck out his hand.

"I'm Toby."

Toby

I laid on my bed, scrolling through things on my phone. Messages, missed calls, just something to keep me- or make me look like I was doing something.

Connor and Riley told me that they were going to Mr. Smith or 'Gramps' as we all called him. I didn't feel like going at first but soon changed my mind. I had nothing to do anyways. I walked the very short distance to Mr. Smith's house and knocked on the door instead of using the doorbell.

A girl with brown hair, like the one I saw yesterday, opened the door. She could be the girl from yesterday but I didn't see her face so maybe she wasn't.

"I'm Toby." I introduced myself and stuck my hand out for a shake.

"Kara" she said her name and shook my hand.

"Is Mr. Smith here?" I asked and she nodded, letting me in.

"Oh there you are Toby!" Gramps exclaimed as he saw me walking front. Connor and Riley gave me a smile and I did the same, I haven't been feeling so good yesterday, today as well. Hopefully, Gramps can change that, "This is James and Samuel- or Sam. They're my grandsons." Gramps smiled at me as he introduced the two sat next to my own brothers. I gave them handshakes and introduced my self.

"Hey gramps, I'm gonna go help grandma in the kitchen." The girl- Kara, came in and told gramps. She excused herself from the conversation and went to the kitchen.

Kara

"Hey sweetie." my grandma greeted me with a smile as I walked through the door.

"Hello. What're you making?" I pulled myself up and sat on the island.

"Plain old sandwiches and lemonade"

"Need any help?" I suggested but she shook her head and told me she was fine.

"Got your eye on any of the McDonough's so far?" My grandma had a playful little smirk on her face, I knew she was joking.

"No, course not grandma" I tell her and she looks up at me after mixing the lemonade.

"You sure?"

"Well- I mean, they're cute and funny but I don't think so."

"Yet."

"Yet?"

"You don't think so.. yet. You're gonna be here the whole summer hon, maybe even longer. Who knows what could happen?" I looked at her confused.

"Shouldn't you be telling me not to have boyfriends at this age instead of almost talking me into getting one?"

"I'm not that kind of a grandmother honey, I'm very cool." She smiled jokingly at me and I did the same, laughing along with her afterwards.

We brought out the food, my grandma carrying the tray of sandwiches and I with the glasses and lemonade. I was walking very slow behind my grandma since everything I was carrying was made of glass, until Toby, I think, offered to carry it for me. I denied but he took the tray from me anyways. I muttered a thanks and followed him to the living room. I sat myself next to James. The guys started to eat the sandwiches but I didn't feel like doing so.

The guys were mainly the only ones talking, by now my grandma has left to go to the store and gramps had come with her. Resulting to me being the only girl in the room. I've listened to them talk and so I have learned a few things about the McDonough's so far; the house next to ours wasn't theirs, it was their grandparents as well. They just come there often for the summer since their house was close by anyways and they loved the beach. They all played instruments and they were in a band. They all take online schooling since they go on small tours throughout the year.

They come over for conversations with my grandpa since, as they say, he has the best advice and stories which I definitely agree with, my grandpa is a great conversation starter.

"So, Kara. How old are you?" Riley asked me with a smile, I haven't really been talking to them so they haven't gotten to know me. We've, so far, only talked about the McDonough's and a little bit about my brothers.

"I just turned 16" I answered his question.

"Ah like Toby then huh?" Connor follows.

"I- uh, I guess so?"

"Yeah, he just turned 16 as well" Riley informs me and I smiled at him taking a quick glance at Toby who was looking at me, which then he probably saw my glance.

"Kara is looking for a boyfriend!" Sam blurted out which caused James to laugh along with him afterwards. A small chuckle from Riley and a confused look on Connor's face.

"Ignore them, they're idiots." I tell the McDonough brothers and they all laughed along.

Toby

I really liked James and Sam, they were very funny and easy going guys. Kara, I haven't really gotten to get to know her since we mostly talked to the two guys, but she seemed like her brothers as well. A girly version and maybe just a little shy at first is what I'm guessing.

Connor had already invited them to hang out by the beach tonight, and they all gladly agreed.

"Why the sudden change of mind of coming over there?" Riley put his arm around my shoulder on the short walk home.

"I had nothing better to do." I shrugged and he doesn't answer.

The three of us all hung out in Connor's room, we were just playing around with some tunes, lyrics, all that. We haven't really done this since we're seriously busy with song writing but I'm glad we got to do it now. At around 6 PM, we left the house to go to the beach which was actually just behind the house. We were sat on these white, beach chairs that were just set up on the beach. Connor had his guitar with him for he said that it would be fun to play around with it.

"Over here!" Riley stood up and shouted, I looked over to where he was looking at and saw three figures. As they got closer, it was James, Sam, and Kara. Kara was rubbing her hands on her forearms, I guess she was cold. I couldn't disagree, it was a bit windy. She was wearing the same thing she was wearing a few hours ago, this white plain tank top with a cardigan over it and some denim shorts. Simple.

I did not realize that she had sat down on the chair next to mine. She looked over at me and smiled.

"Hi"

A/N

Hello everyone! I will be trying to end every chapter with like something italic or something that a character says (mainly Kara or Toby) or whateves because I can't seem to find a way to end a chapter without doing that. But yeah, the one who said 'hi.' to end this chapter was Kara, just saying if you were confused. Haha, ok I'm done talking. xo
