We're Even Now

I step out of the elevator into the empty hallway and head for my apartment. I pull out my keys and start to unlock the door. I step into my apartment and close the door behind me. Looking around for my roommate I find her laying on the couch.

"You're still lying there?"

She turns her head to look at me. She smiles before turning back to watch the tv.

I place my things on the table and go to the fridge to finally get food. Gosh, I haven't eaten since 11 in the morning, now it was 6 pm and I was starving. I open it and scan around to see if there's something I can quickly cook up.

Nothing.

I grunt and close the fridge. Maybe I can just make myself some ramen. I go towards the pantry and open it only to find that there's no more fucking ramen. I turn around and stomp towards the couch.

"Why didnt you tell me theres no more ramen?" I say, pulling Rose's feet, making her fall off the couch.

"Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you, sorry" She smiles, putting her hands together in a "Forgive me" kind of way.

"I'm going to have to go back out there and go all the way to the convenience store to get more." Once again I storm off, grabbing my keys before heading back out.

As I make it around the corner, I can see the store's manager closing up the shop. I run over to him, to see if I can stop him before he locks it.

"Hello sir, do you think I can quickly buy something before you leave?"

"Sorry young lady, I have to head home to my family, but there's another store right down the block, I'm sure it's still open," He says, locking it and smiling before walking away.

I swear, it was bad enough walking 10 minutes to get here, now I have to walk another 10. I sigh deeply before dragging my feet to walk down the road once again.

As I finally reach the store, I slow down my pace. Before I enter, I notice a young man, around my age, sitting outside on the floor in front of the store. He was wearing a black hoodie, grey sweatpants and a pair of worn out boots. He had a sign in his hand that read, "I only ask for food, I don't take money". I smile before entering the store. I should get him something, he looks like a nice guy. It's so sad that even young people like him have to live out on the streets like that.

I grab one of the baskets that the store has and start to gather the food I need.

Finally filling up my basket, I head for the cash register and pay everything. I made sure to buy some things for the boy sitting outside and put them in a separate bag just for him. I walk out of the store, looking around, my eyes finally finding him.

I walk towards him kneeling down next to him. I place the bag next to him before getting back up. He looks up at me, confused.

"I hope you like granola bars," I say pointing at his sign. He smiles, before looking at the bag, and going through everything I had gotten for him. He looks up at me and smiles.

"Thank you, this will last me a couple of days"

"No problem, I'm glad I got to help you" I smile down at him before walking away and heading towards my apartment my heart full of joy. I'm glad I got to help someone. Although I wished I could have given him money so he could rent a hotel room or something. Or he could have bought a blanket, the weather is getting colder. At least I brought him food, that'll help him a lot more.

I can't believe she got me all of this. I only wanted some ramen. God some people can be really extremely kind sometimes.  Now I have food for a couple more days before I run out again.
