Chapter 6 New Life

I made my way slowly to the kitchens in the lower levels of the palace. The remnants of my dreaming hanging in the back of my mind. I slowed even more making sure to be fully aware of my surroundings and the presences of others.

That dream was the only thing I had of my past. I can't remember anything but that dream and two weeks leading up to Kileath and his father finding, while they were hunting in the forests surrounding the hunting lodge in the eastern part of Miloray. In fact not too far from Lord Cadmus's Manor.

I can't remember anything. I don't know who my parents are or if they are even alive, no recollection of siblings. No images of a house or a family or friends. The only things I knew was my age and name and how to hunt and fight.

It doesn't bother me like it used to. Those two weeks leading up to my new life were full of confusion and hazy wanderings. The truth is even those were a little blurry. I have vague images of the forest and I remember being cold at night and terribly hot in the day, but not afraid. The day that Kileath found me is the sharpest of those weeks.

*****************

It was a breezier day and I had been tracking a deer to be my dinner for the day. I was coming close and spotted it through the foliage and found a tree that would give me the best shot with my makeshift bow and arrow. I scaled the tree and aimed for the shot when I felt a group moving towards this spot. I had to hurry before they came; I was waiting for the best shot all the while the group coming closer and closer. All of a sudden I knew it would be to late when I felt a presence separate from the group and take the lead. Not long after a boy on a horse came rushing out scaring off my prey. He stopped and looked back looking for the rest of the group.

I slipped down the tree and moved around the clearing using bushes and tall grass to hide myself. I moved closer and stepped out, he didn't hear or see me until I pulled him from his horse and pin him to the ground. He looked up at me. I saw that he was maybe a year or two older than me making him about 16 or 17. I pulled a dagger from my belt and put it to his throat.

"What the hell is your problem? Are you stupid, you look like you are out hunting and yet you make so much noise and come galloping out scaring off anything in the immediate area." I seethed between my teeth.

"Who the hell are you to attack me? Do you know who I am?" the boy beneath me growled up at me.

"No and I don't care. Wait let me guess." I looked at his horse and his clothing then read into his presence, I sneered, "You're a prince and the group you are with is your father and some friends?"

He looked up at me, and started to roll to pin me beneath him. I could hear the hooves of horses coming closer and closer. I maneuvered away from him and took a fighting stance.

"Oh you think you can fight? You're a girl, and no match for me." He laughed just as the group entered the clearing.

I flicked my eyes to the presences that were now with us. The one I identified as the king looked like an older version of his son except with grey streaking his hair and wrinkles lining his face. He looked kind and gentle, but I could tell he could get angry if provoked to an extent. The others were about the boy's age, a blonde with gold eyes, a brunette with wide brown eyes, and another blonde with icy blue eyes. All boys, all smirking at me.

"Well what do we have here Kileath?" the king said looking at me with his forest green eyes.

"This girl pulled me from my horse and had the audacity to put a knife to my throat and mock me." Kileath said gesturing to me with an annoyed flick of his hand. "And now she thinks she can fight me."

"I can. I can beat you to a pulp, hell I could kill you easily." I said in a factual tone, because I could and I would, given the chance.

"Well I think we shall see about that. Kileath if you are so sure you can disarm and restrain this young lady, then let us see it." The king suggested with a smile. Moving to take the reins of Kileath's horse and move to the edge of the clearing with the others.

Me and Kileath moved to the middle of the clearing. He pulled out a dagger similar to mine.

"Ready. Begin!"

Kileath lunged at me, his mistake. I moved to the side and pulled my knee into his gut. I heard him release a lung full of air. I moved my knee quickly away as he was thrown off balance backwards. I pressed my advantage and dropped down and swiped his legs from under him. Moving agilely to my feet as he fell his back I moved over him and kicked his side pinned the hand with the dagger with my foot then moved my other right above his windpipe.

"Move and I crush you throat." I said in a hard voice.

I heard clapping coming from the group. I glanced over and Kileath saw and tried to throw me off balance. I repositioned myself, dropping to me knees one on his throat the other pinning his dagger hand. I moved my dagger right next to his side and easy plunge to destroy his organs.

"What did I say about moving?" I smiled down at him.

"I think that he has had enough. Come here young lady." I heard the deep kind voice of the king say. I glanced down at the boy named Kileath, his face slowly turning purple. I moved off him reluctantly and made my way to the king's side, as he dismounted. The other boys dismounted and went over to Kileath and laughed. I could hear them talking

"Man Kileath she handed you your ass." The blonde with the gold eyes laughed helping Kileath to his feet.

I focused back on the man in front of me.

"What's your name?"

"Evelira."

"How old are you, Evelira?"

"fifteen, sixteen in the fall."

"Where did you learn to fight like that."

I shrugged and answered truthfully, "I don't know, it come naturally I guess."

"You don't know? Where is your family?"

"Don't have one. I have been living here in the forest for about two weeks. I can't remember anything but these past two weeks." I shrugged again. "If you don't want me here I can move on to somewhere else."

"Interesting." He mulled over this information for a moment. Kileath and the others came over and shook hands with me telling me their names. Angelo was the blonde with the strange gold eyes, the other blonde was Seth, the brunette was Ash. Seth and Ash were brothers. Angelo was a childhood friend of Kileath's.

"Listen Evelira," The king spoke again. "I have a proposition. Come back to the palace with us. I could us your ability. You could help my son train. I can even make sure you go through training with him if you like. You will be treated as part of the family. So how about it?"

I looked at him and at the other boys. I thought over this. I didn't really need a family but a real place to train and real food, sounded good. I looked back to the king and made my decision, maybe I would like having a somewhat family.

I took a breath and held out my hand "I think I will take you up on your offer."

"I thought so," the king looked down at me with a warm smile taking my hand and shaking it.

So began my new life.

A/N

Ok so I know this could have been better but I felt I needed more background info of Eve.

I hope that you enjoy it anyways. I would like to know you input so far on my story.

How well do you think it flows? Do you think that I am being descriptive enough. Is the story interesting enough? Is there something that you wish to know or see in future chapters? If you do let me know and if it fits enough with what i have planned then I can try and fit it in.

I can't wait for your comments.

Thanks a bunch :)
