My Only Sunshine

      Today was the day. I gripped at the pants that Cayde gave me last year for the Dawning. He got injured real bad. The engineers said that his memory was fried completely. He'd have to be reset.
      Today is the day I have to introduce my boyfriend to his fellow hunters, his friends, his peers. He'll learn how to do his job again. He'll learn that we share a two-bedroom apartment together, and he'll learn that he wanted Colonel to have his own room because "Chickens have feelings too".
      He'll have to live without remembering our first kiss, all our stupid dates, the time he got trapped in a Vex time-loop; although he might not care about forgetting the time-loop.
      I walked down the stairs to the hangar.

You are my sunshine..

      I looked around until I found the mechanics door. This is where they fix Exos.

My only sunshine..

      I took a deep breath and had my ghost scan the lock. The door slid open.

You make me happy when skies are grey..

    No one is here besides Cayde's near lifeless body and I.

      The mechanic walked in with Zavala and Ikora. They looked at me with sorrow. I squeezed Cayde's hand and kissed his cheek.

So please don't take my sunshine away..

      There was a zap, then the mechanic turned Cayde onto his side. He opened the back of his head, took out a flat green plate, and inserted a new one. He screwed everything into place and turned him onto his back again. He opened up his shirt to reveal a small button over his heart. He pushed it.
      Cayde's eyes lit up like the sky. "Where am I?" He looked over at me. "Who are you?" I smiled.

      "Welcome back, Cayde-7."
