Spencer looked across the yard, admiring the view of her mate making orders to her fellow warriors and pack members. The wind picked up, blowing her strawberry blonde hair around. Her eyes focused on watching her mate talking to the Warriors about the war that was brewing between the Humans and the Werewolf community. She hadn't liked it one bit, she believed that no matter different DNA they had, they all deserved to live as one."Beta Croft?"
The voice of her mate, got her to re-focus on the scene before her. Many warriors, both men and women stood before them. Most of them scared shitless about this war, not wanting to lose their lives or their mates or their children. It was a war that was brewing. No matter the situation, its war and with that there comes death, loss.
"Yes Alpha Dalton?" She stood up straight and made her way over to the group before her.
"Care to share some words?"
"Right, yes." She coughs to clear her throat and her head of bad thoughts that were roaming around her head. She'd only been thinking about positive things and already had strategies to make peace with the humans. Figure out treaty's and territory assignments. She had ideas to get them through the war, many from old war books, both human and werewolf. She was well versed in all things.
The war was going to brutal to everyone. Not just human, but werewolves too. Even those vampires and witches and other were beings out there, everyone was going to be affected. Spencer knew this, heck everyone in the world knew what was going to happen. Death and lots of it, unless the war wasn't resolved quickly.
After being forced to come out of hiding, well from the forests or small towns that they run. Werewolves were only known as beasts and killers. They wanted to prove to everyone that they weren't, especially Spencer. She wanted to prove to everyone that they were one and the same, that they could and would live the same normal lives, just like before.
Unfortunately, some humans didn't like these ideas or proposals and only wanted blood shed and war.
"As you may have been hearing the rumours, the humans have declared war. After our species, our kind, were forced out of hiding, we've been asked as a pack to bring 10 werewolves. Omegas, Warriors, cooks, medics, anyone who's willing to volunteer." She stood at attention.
"We aren't being forced?" One wolf spoke up from the pack.
"No." Alpha Dalton replied, before Spencer could have the chance.
A few wolves stepped forward, volunteering their lives to the cause. Eventually they had more than enough people volunteering for the cause, a few training medics, some warriors, others that wanted to make a name for themselves. It got Spencer thinking, she knew war better than anyone. She was trained as a warrior, had Alpha and Beta blood through her veins and she also had the knowledge to win the war.
She also had a deep need to prove people right about her. Regardless of what happened when she was a pup, she now knew what she was and understood more things better than anyone. She read a lot, studied hard and trained fiercely. She was one of the best in her pack. But she had knowledge, training and good instincts behind her.
Her mum was a medic, she had medic training in her. Her dad was a previous General for the Alpha King, now our Alpha Queen, so she her warrior and fighting skills from him. She was also the daughter of a Beta father and an Alpha mum, her mum being from another pack where her dad was an Alpha. Spencer was born for this moment, the moment to prove everyone wrong about strong female werewolves.
Finally, out of nowhere, a voice from Spencer spoke up.
"I'll volunteer for the cause."
Only then did Alpha Dalton almost cause a scene right before his pack. No one knew that they were mates, they kept it on the down low.Truthfully, Alpha Derrick Dalton didn't want the pack to sacrifice or become weak because he was madly in love with his mate.
Derrick Dalton always had a tempter, even growing up. It was his alpha genes that were causing through his veins. He knew how to control it and that was to have Spencer around. She always knew how to calm him, but right this very minute, he wasn't sure if she could. He was mad, angry that she wanted to volunteer herself for the war.
He didn't want to lose her to the war. He didn't want to lose his mate.
Furious with her decision to volunteer for the war, Alpha Dalton dragged Beta Spencer off the stage, after dismissing the pack and telling those that volunteered to speak to his third in charge, Jeremy. As the pair stormed away from the pack, trying to avoid such a scene, Spencer's only thoughts were on the fact that she was doing this for her late dad, Senior Spencer Croft.
"Are you out of your fucking mind, Spence?" Derrick stopped in his office, slamming the door hind them.
"I'm doing this for my dad, Derrick. You can't stop me." She huffed out in annoyance. She didn't see the big deal about this, not one bit.
"You can't fucking do this for a dead man." He lashed out.
Spencer's face dropped and a growl came on her lips. "Don't you dare speak about him like that. I'm going to save lives, stop the war. You know me, Derrick. Once my minds set, you can't change it."
"Damn right I can't. I'm your mate Spencer. I'm also your Alpha."
"You're my mate first then my Alpha, Derrick. Don't confuse the both."
"Fucking don't tell me what I am and aren't. You will not be going to the war. I can't loose you, my Beta and my future Luna." He took her in his arms, gently kissing her forehead.
"I'm going, whether you like it or not. Please, just let me do this for my dad?" She begs. "It's all I've ever wanted to do, to make him happy. To make him see why he named me after him. Why he didn't have to wait to name Jeremy after him."
The pair let go of each other. "Just promise me you'll come back in one peace? And you'll write to me, every week so I know you're alive?" Derrick compromises on the situation.
He hated it in fact. He didn't want her out in the war. His beta, his future Luna and mother to his pups. He wanted her home safe and sound, but he knew there was no changing her mind once she was onto something. They'd been best friends growing up and were fortunate to be mates. She was one of the best female warriors and fighters he had ever laid eyes on.
He would mark her right now, in this very office if he wanted to. But he couldn't, not like this. They both wanted to figure out what was good for the pack. He hated waiting to do it, but he wanted to make Spencer happy. He was patient for her. Derrick didn't want to force himself on her or force something upon Spencer.
"I promise, as long as you promise that you'll wait for me. No matter how long it takes? Please, Derrick, promise me you'll wait?" She lets out a tear, thinking this very might well be the last they ever see each other.
She wanted to him to wait for her, no matter how long this war would take. No matter what happens, she wanted him to wait. They were mates after all and most of the time mates waited for each other. She was hoping that would be them too, that Derrick Dalton would wait for her. She was determined to come back home, alive.
"I promise, Spencer. I'll wait till my dying days."
The two shared a kiss in the room, holding each other like it was their last day on earth.
