Yells echoed through the house as the new family moved into the empty house on Maple Street. Patty Miller squealed as she walked into her new kitchen, admiring the place she would spend a lot of her time baking. The middle aged woman ran her hand over the bench that would soon hold a stack of cookies, unable to keep the grin off her face.

Meanwhile, the youngest Miller daughter lay sprawled on her bed that had light pink covers. She stared at the ceiling of her new room and sighed thinking about her past and future. Angel had nothing back in Sandusky, Ohio where she previously lived but at least she was familiar with the place and wouldn't be waking around like a lost dog. Hawkins, Indiana was...new and foreign. She didn't like it.

Unfortunately, her mother had been fired from her third job that year. So when Angel's father was offered a job at the nearby hospital in Hawkins, they thought it was the perfect opportunity to start fresh.

Angel's older sister was even less thrilled because she actually had a social life back in Ohio. She was popular and had a group of friends that the often partied with. Tammy knew it wouldn't be long before she was the new 'It Girl' but she still missed the assurance she had back home.

"Angel swear if you don't get down here right now, I will smash that little pig that holds all your money." Angel's ears almost perked up at the mention of her savings.

"No no, I'm here don't hurt Oinky." She squealed, running downstairs to where her sister was struggling to hold a box full of their clothes.

The older Miller sister tried not to groan at the name her little sister had given the pink pink she found when she was 8.

"Just help me with this will you pipsqueak?"

Angel rushed over to help move the heavy box, thought her thin arms did not help much.

"You know what don't worry. I'll unpack my clothes then you can get yours from the box after." Angel nodded and watched as her sister awkwardly laughed the box upstairs.

The slamming of a door redirected the young girl's attention to the front door and watched as her father walked through the door with a grin on his face.

"Alright, that's everything. We are now all moved in."

"Oh honey it's perfect." Mrs Miller skipped over to her husband and placed a loving kiss on his cheek.

Angel tried not to wince at the word. She never liked the thought of perfect; everyone was flawed in their own way, it's what made them unique. Perfect was bland, perfect was boring. Yet, Angel was expected to be perfect. To be proper, to be a straight A student, to aspire to do great things. Tammy had it easier since their parents had given up on changing her rebellious ways, that's what made them so much stricter on Angel.

Tammy came bounding down the stairs almost bumping into Angel. "Okay well I'm heading out, going to get something to eat." And with that she was gone.

"Angel dear, would you please go to the supermarket to but me some things? I would go but I have to unpack a few more things, all you have left are clothes." The blonde girl nodded and took the list from her mother, wondering when she had the time to write it.

"Your bike is out the front dear." Her father told her so she skipped outside and mounted the baby pink bike she loved.

With a wave, Angel set off in the direction she had seen the market when driving to their new home. The streets were almost abandoned, the only activity being a car or two every few minutes. Finally, she pulled up outside the market and she pushed her bike into a stall before running inside.

'Okay, eggs...here. Milk, chocolate chips, sugar...check.'

Angel found item after item until all she had left was granola and Rainbow Brite. As she paced the cereal section trying to find what she was looking for or a similar substitute she didn't notice the brunette standing in front of her until they were both on the ground.

"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry are you okay?" Angel rushed to help the girl up.

"Yep I'm fine, I might have a bruise  form soon but it's fine." She giggled.

Angel blew a sigh of relief, glad nothing serious happened.

"Say, are you new around here?" She looked Angel up and down as if trying to figure something out.

"Uh yeah, just moved into a house on Maple Street about an hour or two ago. I'm Angel, Angel Miller." She stuck her hand out.

"Nancy Wheeler, nice to meet you." Instead of shaking blonde's hand, Nancy surprised her by pulling her into a hug.

"I'm guessing you're around my age so you'll be going to Hawkins High?"

"Yep, I start there in two days." Angel smiled to hide her nerves.

"Well I live on Maple as well so why don't you get a lift with me? My boyfriend can take us."

She considered it before nodding. "That would be great, thank you."

"No problem." Nancy looked at her new friend's list. "Granola's over there and Rainbow Brite is just down the end, top shelf."

Angel thanked her and Nancy walked off, leaving the new girl with her thoughts and shopping.

'Maybe this won't be too bad after all.'
