Chapter 2

Valerie's POV
After Jay closes the door, he takes a seat at the desk and just sits there playing with his pen and looking around. Everytime I catch him looking at me, he looks somewhere else.

"So what's so important that you wanted to talk to me about? We're in a room now" I said crossing my arms over my chest

"I just want to apol..." he started to say but I cut him off

"Oh bullshit Jay. Save it" I said before opening the door and walking out

"Oh Valerie! Before you leave, do you have all the papers filled out for me?" said sergeant Platt

"Yes ma'am" I said smiling and handing her the folder before heading out

I reach where I parked my car and got in. Ever since I caught Jay cheating and him leaving for the army, I moved out and found my own place. It's a little place I found downtown near the fire department. My best friends Sylvie Brett and Gabbie Dawson work there so I visit all the time. Since I got nothing to do, I'll stop by now. I start the engine and drive over to Firehouse 51.

Once I pulled over to the side of the curb and parked my car, I headed into the firehouse. As I made my way in through the garage, the whole team for Squad 3 were playing with cards at their usual hangout spot.

"Hey guys, whats kickin'" I said

"Hey Val, just the usual you know tryin' to win at this poker game" said Severide

"Well you get right to it. I gotta catch up on my girls" I winked before heading into the kitchen

I gotta admit, I have a little thing for Severide. He's been there for me through everything I've been through. I mean, who doesn't have a thing for Kelly Severide. I walk in and there was Gabbie and Sylvie with Matt aka Lieutenant Casey. Matt's like a brother to me so we're super close. I take my seat at the table their sitting at.

"Hey babes" I said as I sat down

"What's up?" asked Matt

"Oh you know, same old same old" I said

"How was the interview with the Intelligence unit?" Gabbie asked

"You won't believe who I'm gonna work with" I said crossing my arms

"Who? Spill the tea" said Sylvie

"The one and only Jay Halstead" said Jay walking in with a packet in his hand and a slight smirk on his face

"Oh hell no" said Gabbie

"Did you follow me here?" I asked

"No. I'm here for Matt. I'm dropping this off" Jay said while handing Matt the packet

"Oh right" I said before turning my head towards the door where Severide walked in

"What are you so smiley about?" Sylvie asked Severide

"I won the game" he said

"Way to go!" I said giving him a high five

"Oh hey Jay, didn't know you were back" said Severide

"Yeah I came back last week" said Jay

"Well nice to have ya back. And drinks on me at Molly's tonight. Hope to see ya there. Especially you Valerie" said Severide

"I mean, free drinks? I'm in" I said

I could see the jealousy in Jay's eyes.

"Hey, Jay have the whole team down at Molly's too" said Severide
