Some people say that you'll never know what you've got until its gone... For me, a 16 year old girl with only my mother and father to look after me... Well... I guess that's just how it is. Moneys always tight, and my father keeps on yelling with no good reason. Its such a struggle and I thought it was the worst life you could ever live... But on one cold night, I learnt that there are worse things out there.
The sound of the cold unforgiving rain battered down on my coat as I make my way home from a late night school club. Spears of lightning pierce through the bitter night sky, giving me small hints of what was in front of my feet as I tread along the footpath. I was in my own clothing as the after school club didn't enforce uniform. I was wearing a long sleeved red and black cardigan, a red shirt, black leggings and some white trainers.
The rain continued to fall as I walked down my home street. I pulled my phone out of my cardigan pocket. The screen lit up my face and the time read 7:20 pm. Damn, I was supposed to be home at 7. I must've been walking slower than usual. I approached the door of my house... however, I noticed all the lights were out. My parents should be Indoors especially in this weather. In had no time to question. I quickly searched my coat pocket for my door key. I pulled it out from my pocket, the lightning from the storm flickered throughout the sky, illuminating the silverware I held in front of me. I carefully slipped the key into the lock and turned, pushing myself into the house.
All the lights were out, not a single one was on. I called out for my mother whilst hanging my soaked coat on the hanger,
There was no response..
'Mother? father?' I called out once again, however there was nothing back.
I slipped off my drenched shoes and socks, exposing my barefeet to the warm air. Slowly, I reached out my arm to flick the light switch in the kitchen. It hesitated before finally flickering on. I spotted a small piece of paper sitting on the kitchen side. My curiosity rose. I began to approach the paper, depicting a small message written on it. But just before I could get close enough to read it, a crash occurred through the living room. What was going on? I questioned to myself. The noise sounded again. Slightly scared, I slowly advanced to the living room before suddenly hitting the light switch. It was some of my fathers paperwork scattered all over the floor. The paperwork was placed on the middle shelf, so something or someone has knocked it off.
My heart began to race as I quietly maneuvered back into the kitchen, Someone was here with me. I once again approached the note on the kitchen side. My heart flew into my throat as I mumbled the message it read...
"You're Mine, Leila"
I turned to see a tall figure towering over me, wielding a knife in his right hand, I screamed in horror and attempted to push the person aside and run, however, my strength didn't match. The stranger grabbed me by my hair and delivered a hard fist to my waist, I fell on the floor whimpering in pain. The shadow of the stranger crawled over me I winced as another brutal punch strikes my head. Dots appear in the rims of my vision before one last punch knocks me out.
