Chapter 3, First Times A Charm
Shay skips over to Maya and Emily.
"Wait, what?" Maya says, confused.
"I've been asked out," replies Shay with a grin.
Maya screams and envelopes Shay in a huge hug.
"Shay!! That is so great! Finally, Jesus. What was holding these boys back? Now the important part, who?"
Shay stops for a second.
Will they approve of Joey?
"I guess they'll have to," Shay thinks to herself.
She sighs heavily.
"Joey Mitchell."
Maya's jaw gapes open.
Emily breaks the silence.
"Joey? Really? didn't know the boy had it in him."
"Me neither, to be honest," Shay says, shaking her head.
Maya is still speechless.
"Mymy? You okay?"
"Joey. Mitchell."
"Yes...."
"GIRL! HE IS A TOTAL HOTTIE! A dork. But, totally hot. I never expected him to ask you out, I kinda thought he was asexual."
"Maya!!"
"Sorry, Sorry. Anyway, what did you say?"
Shay hesitates. The moment of truth.
"I said yes."
Maya squeals and hugs Shay tightly. Emily giggles and pats her on the back.
"Congrats Shay. Finally, eh?"
"Thanks Em. Yeah, it took a while."
Maya releases Shay, much to Shay's appreciation.
"But it's worth it right? I mean, you like him?"
"Umm...."
Maya gives Shay a confused look. For Maya, it's always been about true love. Shay knows this is the case and decides to tell a little white lie.
"Yeah, I think I do," Shay smiles behind gritted teeth.
Maya hugs her again and Shay smiles.
"Now, I need to go find Brend-"
Maya stops mid-sentence and stiffens when they hear the strum of a guitar behind them. Maya whips around, her short blonde hair fliping in the air and runs to Brendan. He's put down his guitar because he anticipated Maya jumping into his arms.
He was right.
"BRENDAN OH MY GOD I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU DID THAT FOR ME AND THAT YOU'VE FELT THE SAME WAY ALL THESE YEARS!"
They kiss, passionately. Shay and Emily share a glance and giggle.
The couple walk over and Maya hurriedly introduces them.
"Maya, we know who Brendan is. You've talked about him non-stop since 8th grade."
"Oh yeah," Maya flushes. "Of course. Right. This is all just so exciting."
Brendan laughs and kisses her blonde curls. She looks up at him and they begin to kiss again, so Shay gestures to Emily as their cue to leave.
"See you later, Maya," calls Shay.
Maya dismisses her with a hand gesture and Shay and Emily walk to their next class.
