I woke up to someone shifting in my bed. I turned to see Zane getting up. No, nothing happens last night for you dirty minded people. I was having nightmares again so he stayed with me. He’s both comforting and terrifying.
“Zane?” I mumbled, struggling to stay conscious.
“Hey, Kaly. How did you sleep?” He murmured, sitting back down beside me.
“I hate nightmares.” I whispered weakly, my fingers wrapping around his wrist. “Are you leaving again?”
“Yeah.”
“Where are you going?”
“Out.”
“Out?”
“Out.” He confirmed, leaning down to kiss my forehead quickly. “Go back to sleep. I’ll be back by morning.”
“Promise?”
“Promise, Princess.”
“Okay. Goodnight.”
“Goodnight.” He murmured.
I rolled back over and resisted the urge to follow him. He was right. It was none of my business . . . .
When I woke up I blinked in the bright light. Then it went out, then on again, then out. Annoyed, I sat up and looked around. I saw Miko standing by the door playing with the light switch.
When he saw me awake he smiled slightly. “Hey, Princess. Eliza wants to know if you survived a day with Zane.”
I lifted my t-shirt sleeve and saw a dark, purple bruise where he had grabbed me and I poked it, then winced. “I lived.” I offered.
I saw him staring at the bruise and I let my sleeve drop again. He looked at me and his eyes were shadowed. “He did hurt you.”
“We were just arguing.” I said, waving my hand indifferently.
He sighed and shook his head, then walked out.
“Milo!” I called him back.
He slowly walked back into my room. “Yeah, Princess?”
“Where is he?” I whispered.
He shrugged. “I have no clue. He could go to Jupiter and not tell me.”
I grinned weakly. “Alright. Thanks anyway.” I said, standing up and stretching. He nodded and walked out again. I got dressed and walked out after him, wary of meeting Eliza so early in the morning. I’m sure she will love the bruise Zane left me. When I got to the main room Eliza was sitting in a chair and eating an apple. When I walked in she looked up at me and her eyes were disdainful. “Where are the boys?” She asked.
“I dunno. I saw Milo though.”
“He’s the one I sent to wake you up. Of course he’s here.” She spat at me, standing up.
I felt anger starting in me. I hadn’t had a good night’s sleep and I was running thin on my nerves. “Well I’m sorry. Maybe you should put trackers on them and treat them even more like dogs.”
“Dogs would be better to have.”
“Then go get a pet and leave them alone.” I snapped.
She glared at me and slowly walked over to me. “If I were to track anyone, it would be you. I want you inside at all times from now on.”
“Since when have I ever left?” I asked dryly. “I’m sure Zane will be back soon. He probably got lost in the garden.”
“Only Zane?”
