Time for Change

One day, I told her to meet me at the park. I was wearing a plaid button-down shirt paired with some corduroy pants. I forgot to mention, because Jane and I became friends, she influenced me on how to dress good. I call her my "fashion guru", although I told her I won't give up my glasses; contacts disgust me so...still a nerd, but I can say I looked better.

Then I spotted a beautiful girl walking towards me.

"Hey, Jane!" i said. She looked really beautiful, I mean really really beautiful. She was wearing a flower-patterned dress with one of those Keds shoes.

"You- you look really b-b-beautiful today.." i said. I felt my heart begin to race.

I just stuttered. Oh shit.....

"Thanks...." I breathed a sigh of relief. "...so do you.." she said with that beautiful smile. "So...why are we here anyways?"

Uh-oh. I didn't think this through. A voice kept nagging me, though.

Think! why are you here anyways? Think of an excuse, anything, come on!

Stop pressuring me, will you!

Woah. Did I just talk to myself?

Yeah, you did. Now stop changing the subject and think!

You're not the boss of me!

You are me. We're the same, remember?

Wow. I didn't know myself was a jerk.

At least, I don't look like a moron in front of Jane!

You are me, you idiot. Or did you forget?

And there I was, thinking I was smart.

You- I mean, we are smart!

Yeah, yeah. Now think!

No!

Yes!

No!

Yes! When he noticed Jane eyeing her, he stopped.

Shut up!  he told himself.

"Well, I uh," he said while rubbing the back of his neck. "I was just wondering if we could have a casual stroll in the park, I mean it is a beautiful day right?" i said, hiding the rising nervousness in my voice.

She looked around, and it seemed like we were the only ones there.

"It is." she finally said. Then she looked at me. "It really is." I breathed a sigh of relief. Then she took my hand-Yes!-and we just enjoyed each other's company while feeling the warm summer breeze around us. Then after an hour, we decided to sit at a bench and just talk. And because the awkward silence between us was suffocating already, I said the first thing that came to my mind.

"So uh, you uh, really really look beautiful today.." i said.

"Haven't you said that already?" she said, confused.

Damn it! I'm not good with girls.

Then I started to think of what to say to her. Just then, we looked into each other's eyes and I put her hair behind her ear. My body was in overdrive mode. We were like this for a few seconds, both of us holding our breaths. At that moment, I let it all out and these were the words that came out of my mouth:

"That's because you truly are." i said, finally. At this point, I can already hear the heavy beating of my heart. I think she was surprised, I mean, I am a nerd, but she didn't mind. In fact she moved closer to me.

Ok, I'm dead.

Now, we're really good friends, but I can sense something different about her.-like she's in love. Yeah she's sweet, but she never did things like this to other guys except for me.

"You know Andrew, you've really changed these past few months, I mean, look at you! I swear, give me 2 more months and I'll fall in love with you!" she said with a teasing glint in her eyes. I was pretty shocked though, but she made it seem like it was what people would usually say to me.

"Why wait for 2 months? Why not now?" i suddenly said.

My face suddenly went pale. Oh shit.

She looked surprised by what I had just said and I suddenly regretted those words.

Shit! You blew it, dude!

Oh hey, you're back.

Of course, I'm back. I'm you, you idiot.

Ha! So that means you're an idiot as well. In your face, asshole!

Hey-

All these thoughts were broken when she said:

"You're right. Why not now." At that exact moment, she looked right at me and smiled. I tried to look away but failed to because she cupped my face in her hands. I felt everything in the world tell me that 'she's the one'. Then, slowly, she took my glasses off, smiled, and said 4 words that completed my life.

"I LOVE YOU, ANDREW."
