"But Mom, I know I have a chance." She just doesn't understand. Oh mother, why can't you just be convinced.
"Amelia, forget it. You're never gonna make it big in the world so it's a huge waste of your time, and more importantly my money." She says.I believe that nothing good will ever happen if you don't take risks. And you have to fail before you succeed. So basically, I love to write. I've been writing since I was a little girl. When I was asked as a child what I wanted to be when I grow up, my answer would always be "an author" or "a poet". I always had that passion, and it shined like diamonds.
Then something happened. I found out about a writers workshop in New York City, and it's a 4 week class on everything writing. And then, everyone who enters has to write one story. And there's no boundaries. Then, all the stories are read and judged, and the best author wins $100,000 AND gets their story published by Random House. Which would also come with a lot of fame, and speeches, and book signings. WHICH I WOULD GIVE UP MY LEFT ARM FOR. (Duh, because I'm right handed and I need my right hand to write haha)
But, my mom won't agree to pay for it. I'm only 17, and I can't afford to fly there myself, and pay to do the workshop. My mom doesn't believe that I'm talented enough. But I know I can do it.
"Mom why don't you believe in me?" I say to her. We're sitting in our living room and I haven't stopped bugging her about it.
"Because you're 17 years old, an inexperienced writer, and never travelled on your own before. So no, I don't believe that traveling to New York by yourself to do some stupid writing workshop is a good idea." She says.
"But moooooooommm." I start. "I could win 100,000 dollars! We could do so much with that money!"
Then, my sister Savannah starts to laugh.
"Amelia, you wouldn't know a thing about writing, even if J.K Rowling kissed your ass."
Then I throw my hairbrush at her . My mom yells at both of us to shut up and stop bothering each other. I stand up and I yell:"I'm done with this! I'm sick of being doubted and being told I can't do shit because that makes 100% more likely to do it! I'm leaving this mindfuck of a home!" I grab my phone and my coat and I slam the door behind me. I walk and I don't stop. I don't know where I'm going either.
I just want a chance. I start walking towards the beach. The rough noises of the water always calmed me. I sit on a rock by the water. I'm all alone.
Then I raise my voice.
"I am Amelia Green, and I'm going to pursue my dream."
