"We're here!" Qrow exclaimed, parking his trusty van across from the Schnee estate.

Winter glanced uneasily out the passenger window. Yang and Blake held hands across the two middle seats, and Ruby and Weiss huddled in the very back.

"If you really aren't willing to do this, then we understand," Winter addressed Weiss, leaning towards the rear view mirror so that she could see her sister. "This is not a matter you should allow your pride to control."

Weiss shook her head. "I'm not afraid of him."

The eldest Schnee smirked. "You sound just like Mother."

"I don't think I would be able to live with myself if I was more like Father," Weiss admitted.

Ruby unbuckled her seatbelt and stood up, crouching to make sure that her head wouldn't hit the roof. She shuffled to the door and pulled it open. "Alright, let's do this!"

The anxious heiress followed Ruby's example and stepped out of the van. She glanced at Blake and frowned. "I assume it wouldn't be the best idea to join us?"

The Faunus shook her head. "Don't worry, though. I'll be fine on my own."

"Who said you'll be on your own?" Yang jumped in. "You can crash at our place!"

"Excuse me?!" Qrow outburst. "I don't remember agreeing to that!"

"Last time I checked, I was the one who actually kept the house together, Qrow!" the blonde countered.

The older man groaned. "For the last time, it's Uncle Qrow!"

Yang scoffed. "As if I'd give you the pleasure."

"If you weren't my niece..." Qrow grumbled, making the girls giggle.

"Alright, I'll walk Weiss to the door. Don't take off without me!" Ruby joked. She took Weiss' hand and shamelessly marched her towards the mansion.

Until now, Ruby hadn't realized that the heiress hadn't spoken a word to her since they left the hospital. "You really are afraid, aren't you?"

Weiss sighed shakily. "Maybe a little."

Ruby gave her hand a reassuring squeeze. "You don't have to be. No matter how things turn out, I'll back you up."

"I feel so much safer," the heiress replied sarcastically, but she couldn't help grinning.

Ruby hummed as they crossed onto the front walkway. "There's still time to turn back, you know."

"No. Even if I avoided him now, he would find me eventually."

Ruby couldn't find a reasonable argument, and this the uncomfortable silence returned.

"This is it," Ruby whispered when they reached the front door. "Go on."

Weiss approached the doorbell hesitantly. Not even Ruby's warm smile could offer solace. She groaned under her breath and lightly tapped the doorbell with her index finger.

A little chime echoed throughout the mansion's interior. Ruby hovered behind her girlfriend for what felt like eternity until the doorknob finally clicked and twisted.

The head of the household himself was the one to answer.

"Weiss," Jacques Schnee sighed, his tone edged with bitterness. "Have you come to your senses?" As soon as he asked, he noticed her eye patch. "Your eye! When will you recover?!"

Weiss stood stick-straight in a manner that Ruby was unfamiliar with. "Father! I... ah... I recall the doctor saying it would be about a month or so."
