After school, Tyler and I decided to head to Mystic Grill to get something to eat and play some pool. Things were pretty tense between Tyler and his dad at home, so he tried to stay out of the house as much as possible. He offered free food, so how could I say no #FATGIRLSREPRESENT. Haha, just keeding. I just needed a break from Caroline, as much as I love her I don’t think I could handle another afternoon of her droning on and on about Matt. There’s been something going on with dad too. I’d catch him staring at pictures of Aunt Isobel all the time. I know, he misses her like crazy. Her death is really the cause of his whole vampire-hunting hobby. He told me he saw her being drained by one. He claims that one vampire in none other than, Damon Salvatore. I don’t know what to believe, but I’m keeping my distance just in case. My dad’s been going crazy researching things of the supernatural kind. I need to get away from that pretend to be a normal teenager with normal teenager problems, like Tyler for example, we’ve been hanging out a lot Meaning, almost everyday I’m trying not to over think it, but I’m not sure what we are; if we’re just friends or may eventually be more.

“You okay Maya?” Tyler asked, looking down at me as we sat at a booth. “You seem bothered.”

“I’m fine, just some things on my mind is all,” I said trying to smile.

“Wanna talk about it?” He asked. I laughed and said “no”. We started talking about school and football. I haven’t missed a game since I came here. Our food came and we started eating and joking around, the usual trying to take our minds off of reality. We had a small fry fight, before being threatened to be kicked out by the manager. I hearted Tyler mutter an “oh god” while looking at the door and I gave him a questioning look.

“Tyler! Is okay if we join you?” I heard a woman ask. I turned to see a well-dressed, middle-aged woman and man making their way towards us.

“Mom, dad” He said nodding to both of them. They slid into the booth, they sat across from us.

“Now who is this lovely young lady? Is this the lovely girl who you’ve been spending all your time with?” His dad asked. I couldn’t run away, because I was in between a wall and Tyler, nowhere for me to run. I’m not Mike the situation, I don’t fancy running into walls.

“Mom, Dad, this is Amaya Hale, she’s pretty new to Mystic Falls. Maya this is my mom, Carol and my dad, Richard” He said, introducing us not sounding the least bit happy about it. A little offended here.

“It's really nice to meet you, Mr and Mrs Lockwood,” I said to them as politely as possible. I mean it’s the mayor and his wife, I wanted them to like me.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you too, sweetheart” Mrs. Lockwood said, smiling as sweetly as she could. “Tell me about yourself. He mentions you a lot. Are you two dating by any chance?” She said smiling even wider making me blush and look down at my lap.

“Mom” Tyler said in a warning tone, giving her a look that said stop.

“Heh uhh no we’re not dating, we’re just friends. I’m originally from Beacon, Hills California but I lost my family in a house fire. My uncle, Peter, was the only one that survived the fire; my oldest brother, Derek, my sister, Laura and I were at school at the time. I was 10 years old at the time and my uncle was hospitalized and my brother and sister had left town, so I was sent to live my uncle Alaric” I said smiling slightly. They gave me sympathetic looks, but I must have told this story a thousand times to the Gilberts, Bonnie, Caroline, Tyler, Matt, Stefan and many other people when they asked my I lived with my dad/uncle. The story doesn’t make me as sad as it used to. I’ve gotten stronger.
