Hey, I am not a weeb. But I do enjoy watching anime because they are better than watching television shows in my country television channels. (even Korean and Hong Kong dramas are way better than them) At least I don't watch like a hundred or two hundred animes. So I guess I can call myself a partial weeb. LOL
I only discovered anime (what I meant by discovering it was actually realising what is anime is) during early 2014 when my puberty just started to kick in. Back then, a group of people I knew (but I am not that close to them to be honest) were passionately talking about. Hearing them talking about anime makes me wonder how does anime looks like. Hence, upon an anime recommendation from one of my friends in my CCA (Co-Curricular Activities), I watched D-Frag during my March holidays (a one week holiday during the middle of March). After two days of binge watching it, (I only spent a few hours watching it actually.) I realised what anime is really about and I am really excited to watch more anime majority because D-Frag is a good anime. And I did watched more, starting from Tokyo Ravens - another anime that is very awesome.
Earlier above just now, I mentioned that I only truly discovered anime after realising what it was. I typed that because I actually watched anime on television before, without me realising the anime shows I watched is actually anime. Back then when I was younger and still in primary school, my father bought a cable television setup box which allows us to watch cable television channels on our television. Then, with the help of newspaper and also from what I heard from one of my family members, I found that there is an animation show in one of the channels during the 6-6.30 p.m. or 6.30-7 p.m. timeslot. That "animation show" is the anime "Katekyo Hitman Reborn". I am very fond of that memory when I first heard about it. What I knew was that the first episode was airing on that day and it is a different type of show that I can't normally see in the local television show. It definitely piqued my interest and of course I watched it and didn't regretted a single moment of watching it. I carried on to watch its other episodes and watch some of them on YouTube when I am unable to watch them due to some circumstances. After watching the whole series, (I completed watching it on YouTube since after a few months, the channel stopped broadcasting it and started to show another which I watched also. Hehe.) I carried on watching the other anime shows that were shown - Kiba, One Piece and an anime about spirits exorcists. (definitely not Twin Stars Exorcists, Blue Exorcists and Mob Psycho)
After the cable television channel stopped airing anime shows and fast forward to 2014 when I realised what anime really is, I started to watch them on internet through KissAnime. From there, I discovered a lot of shows. And the best of the anime recommendations i saw in KissAnime is Oregairu (Yahari Ore no Seishun Rabukome wa Machigatteiru) [here is the English title: My Youth Romantic Comedy Is Wrong, As I Expected]. I watched both seasons (I binge watched the first season and watch the second season during the season it was aired.) and it was so damn good. No anime in my opinion could have beaten that. Right now, this anime is still my #1 anime on my favourite anime lists. This anime will probably dethroned by another in a few years or maybe be the #1 in my list forever.
Of course, I watched other great anime shows other than just Oregairu after realising what is anime. I watched anime like Amagi Brillant Park, Tsuki Ga Kirei and Charlotte. These three anime mentioned are among the ones I liked a lot. Let me just tell you a brief introduction for each so maybe you might wan to watch. First off, Amagi Brillant Park was a show that is a comedy but also a show where you see a guy reluctantly agrees and eventually tries to save an amusement park. This show is quite promising with its comedy parts and story progression despite its start which might be a bit let-down. Next, Charlotte is an anime that is full of wonders literally. A great anime with the main character who turns good after misusing his abilities. (it is in the summary so these are not spoilers) It is an anime that never lacks a great story progression too, with the suspense, intensity and some actions towards the end, it is an anime that many would recommend you to watch. (If they can remember about it)
Next and the last on the list of the example is Tsuki Ga Kirei. Unlike the rest of the examples, this is the only anime aired during 2017 among all the anime shows mentioned so far here. This is a love story anime. Some might say ew or like I don't wanna get goosebumps. I at first used to be like this. However, seeing some heart-warming and non-goosebumps-inducing scenes, I decided to watch it. The results after watching it - no regrets and filled with tears because it was just too good that it can take the sliver medal for my anime list. (Sorry for no gold because Oregairu is too good, way better than it in my opinion, especially with the life lessons.) The couple in the anime is so pure and legitimately the material for an OTP. (One True Pairing) The whole story progression is way better than the other two shows. I cheered for the couple, jeered the competitors that try to break them and cried in sad and happy moments. (I cried because it is too touching. Sorry, this is my opinion.) I even got its opening and ending songs because I liked both of the songs too much, just like the anime. Anyways, this is the next anime I will recommend to watch after recommending Oregairu. Not only I feel happy for them, deep in my heart, I am hoping for this love story to happen in my life. (Sadly this needs a miracle. ;-;) Right now as of now, I am trying to find time to watch other anime shows like Made in Abyss, Twin Stars Exorcists and 3-gastu no Lion.
Anime also have movie adaptions and there are animation movies. Still, these are great in their own ways. Watching them in movie theaters was very great. I did that before three times when I watch One Piece Gold, A Silent Voice and "Uchiage Hanabi, Shita kara Miru ka? Yoko kara Miru ka?". The experience watching them in theaters were godly. Having a large screen with awesome quality is way better than any screen in your home unless you got a super huge television that matches the size of a cinema screen. Movies last longer than an episode, around 2.5x to 4x of a 30 minutes episode. Of course, you gotta to pay money to watch these anime movies in cinemas unless you are okay watching with a smaller screen at home. But still, watching anime movies is still a great activity to do as each of them are superb in their own ways. For instance, One Piece Gold have their great action scenes with the awesome animation quality, A Silent Voice had a good script and storyline whereas Uchiage Hanabi had not only a good plot but also godly animation. (It was so good that I had a happy mood throughout the rest of the day even when I went through an exam paper too.)
Anyways, anime shows are nice especially if you found that ones that you are more into or those that have awesome quality and plot. If you are a hater, maybe you try watching one and your thoughts might change. If it didn't happen, then at least try don't hate anime fans or people who watch a bit of them because anime are beautiful in their own ways.
After all, anime is good and there is a lot of anime shows that you can choose to watch especially in the internet thanks to technology. Therefore, please give it a try. Also, thanks for reading as usual. :)
