The bear gazed slowly down at herself feeling unworthy, uncertain of what the rest of the world expected of her. She was meant to be a hunter, a predator, but more often than not she felt like the prey. Threatened in a world she felt so uncertain of, and often lost in. Her fur was marked by scars, some superficial and some much deeper- the marks of her past, the remnants of what she had been through. Her mind replayed the scenes she had witnessed, those that she had been through.

She knew she had her family and some close friends, but sometimes it felt as if she was all alone in the world. She prayed for someone who would understand her and what had she had been through- who understood that sometimes she just needed someone to hold her tight even if she didn't say it. She needed someone who would stand by her side, who could hold her paw and would feel like the missing piece of her life- the other half of her. She needed to find her man. The one who would cherish her and see the beauty in her even when she didn't see it. She knew she wasn't like every other bear out there, but she didn't want to be. However, there always remained a doubt that her perseverance in being herself would mean that those she fell for would not find her attractive.

It was when she was at her lowest ever point, that her life changed. She had began to feel scared and alone. That was when she looked up and saw something that made her wonder if her life was about to change.

Circling the sky above her was a beautiful, majestic bird. It wasn't his handsome looks that struck her most at first. It was his eyes. They were the most beautiful shade of brown she had ever seen in her life, even from a distance she felt lost in them, it was as if they could capture her soul and see through it in a split second. Her lips curved upwards in a smile before she even noticed the effect the beautiful creature was having on her.

How she wished that she could convince him to fly down to her. She imagined that his wings would provide the soft, warm comfort that she craved, a feeling of safety that she had been dreaming about for years- where nothing bad could ever happen to her.

Was it possible? Could an owl and a bear make each other happy. As a bear she was far smaller than she should have been so she know they could make it work if only she could win his affectionate.

As the most handsome bird she had ever laid eyes on temporarily stopped and seemed to stare directly at her. She looked deep into his eyes and in quiet voice to prevent him overhearing she whispered a single word.

"Mine."
