A New Threat

Prologue

Life was simple, nowadays. Eggman has finally been arrested and sentence for a lifetime of jail. The famous blue hero, Sonic the Hedgehog, still fights crime occasionally but decided that perhaps, it was time to settle down. Amy no longer loved him and has moved on to someone else. He searched and searched and searched but yet, he couldn't find that one person that would complete his mostly lonesome life. Until one hedgehog came around and finally bent around Sonic's finger. The Ultimate Lifeform, Shadow the Hedgehog, finally came back from one of his monthly disappearances.

Eggman was gone, GUN didn't have anything for him so he was a free man. Sonic came around one day and asked the daring question if he wanted to hang out. Shadow declined over and over, again and again, continuously slamming the door in Sonic's face. But the blue hero came back again and again, his persistence never waning. The continuous appearance of the blue hedgehog finally wore down the striped agent and he agreed gruffly. The two hung out each month. Then it became each week, then each day. Soon, Shadow was the one asking if they could hang out.

Over the few months that they spent hanging out with each other, their feelings of friendship grew to something far bigger. It was coming to the point when they would think of each other constantly, which is much to Shadow's despise. It was finally on one day, when Sonic popped the question. They were on Green Hill at the time, looking off at the horizon, the ocean lapping at the mountain below their feet. "Hey Shadow." Sonic said, not tearing his eyes off of the ocean. "Yeah?" Sonic's heart pounded in his chest as he finally tore his gaze off of the ocean and towards Shadow.

Shadow does the same and notices the light tint of red on Sonic's muzzle. "I-I need to ask you something." Shadow starts with surprise. 'Now he's stuttering. What is he going to ask?' "Sure. What is it?" Sonic looks off to the side, the blush evidently growing bigger. "D-Do you want to be my... um, boyfriend?" Now it was Shadow's turn to blush. "Y-You want me... to be your boyfriend?" He asked, a timid shyness creeping into his eyes. Sonic nods then smiles. "Yeah. So... do you want to be?" Sonic's mind raced with thoughts, some negative, some positive. A small smile appears on Shadow's muzzle as he places a gentle hand on Sonic's.

"I thought you would never ask." Sonic's eyes lit up as he swiftly wraps his arms around Shadow's waist. Shadow wraps his arms around Sonic's neck and they stay there until the sun was finally setting. A year after they got together, Sonic proposed to Shadow and he happily accepted, tears running down his face. It's now been three years and the two were enjoying their happy life as a married couple. But, something has changed in Sonic's mind. He doesn't find the same happiness as he did before when he was with Shadow.

He dare not tell him as to keep Shadow happy until that one day where it all just came out.
