It was a chilly autumn night. The leaves have lost their life and crunch under the heavy footsteps. Air nips at her ears as she pulls her collar back up and brings it tighter against her face. Taking quick steps, she continues on her way back to her apartment. She keeps taking glimpses around checking her surroundings.
"Te? Are you there?" She whispers in her head.
"Yes, Liles," he whispered back "you know that I won't ever leave you."
He could sense her unease. "Liles? What's the matter?"
She started shaking her head before he interrupted her. "Lilac, I know something is wrong. Tell me what it is, please."
She couldn't really say no to him, especially when he pleads with her.
"Dante I'm scared. I'm scared that people are going to think I'm crazy. I have a fucking demon living inside me! That's some scary shit! What if you decide that you want to take me over? What if someone finds out and takes me to a priest? I don't know what's going to happen and it scares me, Dante." She roughly runs her fingers through her dark brown locks and grips the end.
Dante is stunned. He knew that something was wrong but he didn't realize it was actually something.
"First of all, you don't need to be scared. I don't want to hurt you, Lilac. The only reason I entered your body was because I don't want to go back to hell. Hell, now that's something that's scary. I would much rather be up here with you," Dante words began to calm Lilac down so he continues.
"I don't want to take over you and no one is going to find out because you don't act any different. It's not a big deal. I'll always be here to protect you Liles, always."
She exhaled a shaky breath. "Thank you Te. I don't know what I would do without you."
He just smiled in return.
"Te, what were you like before you died?" She had been dying to ask him this since he first possessed her weeks ago.
Dante was taken back by her question. He hadn't thought about his life before hell in a long time. Once he entered hell no one cared about who he was or what he did. They only cared about themselves.
"Well, I wasn't the best person. I mean obviously because I'm a demon not an angel." Lilac giggled at this.
"You couldn't have been that bad Te. You're really nice to me." He shook his head at this.
"I made some bad choices and those choices eventually got me killed. I've learned from my mistakes. I was messed, no I was fucked up. But before all of that I was nice person. I lived a normal life."
"What happened? Why did you change?"
"It all went down hill when I thought I had to break the law to be cool. I got mixed in with the wrong crowd and soon I was the leader of the wrong crowd. I did drugs, drank, had sex like it was going out of style, and ruined my future. I was great in school and great on the field. I could've easily gone to any school that I wanted to but I let peer pressure and popularity get the best of me."
A tear slipped down her cheek as she listened to his story. She let this sink in as she reached her front door. Pushing the key in and twisting she let herself in.
"Te?" She asked quietly as crawled into bed.
"Hmm?" His reply came back just as quietly.
"How old were you when you died?" Lilac fiddled with her fingers as she waited for his answer.
Dante's voice was meek as he replied, "I was only 18, a senior in high school. I was going to graduate in a couple of months."
A sob escaped Lilac's mouth as she mourned for Dante. She couldn't imagine dying as such a young age, especially when she wasn't but a year older.
"Shh, it's okay Liles. I made my mistakes and I reaped what I sowed. I have you now. I may not be alive but I have someone who cares for me. Don't cry over my death Liles, you've given me the best thing possible. You've given me a second chance at life by simply allowing me to ride along on your journey. And I'll be forever grateful."
Wiping away the last of her tears, Lilac smiled. "I'm glad you chose to possess me. As crazy as that makes me sound. You've now become a part of me and I don't know what I'd do with you."
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\It's currently 2:30 am and I'm at my best friends house. I couldn't sleep so I decided to finish writing this little short story. It's not that great but I hope you liked it.
Love,
Nola xoxo
