=======================================================================
I practically sprinted towards my house so that I could freshen myself up before Mark picks me up at 8:15.
The moment I opened the front door, the strong odour of coffee greeted me.
“You have been jogging I see?” Dad said, while taking a sip of his coffee, newspaper in hand.
“Good morning, Dad.” Giving him a kiss on the cheek. “My usual routine, of course.”
I ran up the stairs, entered my room and then frantically searched my closet for something to wear.
I finally decided on wearing a light blue tank top and a roll up short. I like simple clothes because I feel comfortable to wear it wherever I want.
I got my cell phone to look at the time. 7:45.
I still have time, whew.
Taking a cold shower for 15 minutes, I emerged feeling fresh and more energized.
I blow-dried my hair and then tied it into a messy pony-tail, applied a little lip gloss, but that was it, I don’t usually wear make-up unless it’s a special occasion.
For final inspection, I stood in front of my long mirror feeling contented. I slipped on my black floral flats and grabbed my purple sling bag before going down to eat breakfast.
Our wall clock read: 8:05
Wow, I’m fast! Mom, seeing the smug look on my face, nudged me.
“What are you so proud about?” Mom asked.
“Oh nothing. Just the fact that I’m so fast in the morning, like I’m The Flash or something.”
“Okaaay. Eat your breakfast, Ms. Flash.”
My dad and I laughed before sitting down. Mom prepared salad and cooked tuna today. Oh joy, another healthy meal. Note the sarcasm.
“Aren’t we going to wait for Ryan?” I asked, looking up the stairs.
Mom replied, “Nah, he’s still in dreamland. He’ll smell the food soon enough and come down for sure.”
“Aw, but I’ll be in the orphanage by then. I was planning on bringing him there. Oh well, maybe next time then.”
I finished my breakfast before asking Mom and Dad about Mark giving me a ride to the orphanage.
I started nervously, “Uh, Mom? Dad? May I ask you something?”
They both nodded.
“You see, my friend asked me if he could bring me to the orphanage today and I said yes,” I paused and looked at my parents’ reaction before continuing. “I promise you guys, my friend is nice and won’t do anything to me. Besides, I already said yes.” I gulped, waiting for their answer.
