Chapter 9 - Lying is the Most Fun A Girl Can Have
"Hey Zach?" I prompted. "Why did you want to learn drawing and art?"
It was September 10th and two months since I came here. Things were going fine. Zach was getting so much better at drawing. He could now nicely draw objects kept in front of him.
"No reason." He shrugged and went back to sketching the basket.
"Oh come on. There must be a reason." It was completely possible that there was no reason. But I felt like there must be something that made him choose this.
He stared at me for a couple of seconds and then started talking.
"It's not a secret but...every Royal should have at least one developed talent. This is a Royal custom. Before this, I attempted playing an instrument, singing, dancing, writing, cooking, gardening, and so many more things. But I was never really interested in them. I can rap, but Mother and Father can't know that." He finished.
"And now?"
"I find that I quite like this." He gave me a small smile.
I beamed proudly at him. "I am glad you do."
A thought came to my mind.
"So you mean every single Royal has a talent? What are everyone's talents?" I was curious.
"Father is an exceptional gardener. He himself planted and grew every single rose in the Rose Emporium."
The King? Wow.
I made a mental note to visit the Rose Emporium.
"Mother is a brilliant violinist and dancer. She received many years of training from professionals in ballet and jazz."
I thought the Queen played the piano since I saw a large piano in her office.
But now that I think about it, she did have a violin in there too.
Very impressive.
"Philip has versatile talents. He is a gifted dancer, singer, cook and pianist. Mother and Father went all out on their first child."
Hold up.
Do I detect a hint of envy in his tone?
"Zach." I said softly. "You are such a smart guy. You are creative, you can rap, you can now draw too! You are amazing and unique in your own way."
"I am sure Miss Adams." He gave me a weak smile.
He then gave me a warm smile.
"Are you looking forward to your birthday next week, Miss Adams?" He cleverly changed the topic.
I shrugged.
"Not really I guess. Sure, I am excited about the fact that I am turning 18. But otherwise? Not really. There's nothing special." I was surprised to note a hint of sadness in my voice.
I didn't know that I wanted a good birthday so badly.
"I am sorry, Miss Adams. I am sure you would have wanted to spend your birthday with your family and friends." He looked genuinely sorry.
I shrugged and said,"You are right about that."
Except I don't have any friends except Sean, and maybe James Landon and his fiancee, but they are out of the question. I don't know them well.
