Hope's POV
I sit on the back of the ute watching the sun come over the dusty horizon. It's time for holidays again and like usual I went to my godmothers farm. Auntie Robin was always happy to see me. But this time I brought Riley, Sapphire and Hugo. I woke up early this morning to go see the sunrise. I drove out to the furthest paddock and parked the ute so I could watch the sunrise. I watch a ball of light creep over the dry fields. No crops this year, again.
I hear the faint rumble of the quad coming along the dirt road. The rumbling gets louder until it's next to me. The engine cuts, and footsteps begin towards the ute. I watch Riley get up onto the ute and sit next to me. We watch the colours change in the sky from a warming yellow to and fairy floss pink and finally to a bubblegum blue. The sky turns to its usual blue and the colour slide show stops.
"This is what you do every morning?" Riley asks me as I stare into the distance.
"Mmmm." I replied. A gust of cold winter wind blows and I shiver. Riley wraps his arm around me to keep me warm. At first I'm shocked but I gradually let myself relax into his arms.
"We should go check on the cattle." Riley says snapping me back to reality.
"Yeah." I whisper, getting up and into the ute.
I watch Riley get on the quad and take the lead to the paddock.
Riley's POV
I hop on the quad and start the engine. I'm still filled with a bubbly warmth when we arrive at the paddock. I open the gate to let Hope in with the ute. We check on all the cows, they're calving at the moment. I find a heifer under a tree and look at its condition. I call Hope over and she asses the cow. I watch her bend over and take in her amazing curves.
"When you're done gawking at my butt we can go." Hope says to me snaping me out of my trance.
"Oh s, sorry." I stutter and get back on the quad.
"I'll come back and check on her tonight." She yells out to me as I start down road to the house.
When we get back to the house the house is in total chaos. Auntie Robin is running around the kitchen stirring large pots of curry and other foods, Edd is on the phone to his mates and the dogs are going off at something behind the fridge. Just because it's dry this year doesn't mean the pests don't breed. The wild pigs have been snuffling food lately from the stores in the paddocks and Edd has gotten all his mate's sons to come and do a bit of pest control. Shooting really. He showed me how to handle a gun and I've kinda been excepted into the group but the boys still think i'm not capable. It's happening tomorrow and Auntie Rob is freaking out about having to feed fifteen hungry farm boys.
"Hope put on an apron and help me." Auntie Rob yells at Hope as she tries to sneak off into her room.
"Mmmmmm." Hope groans.
"Riley get the dogs out of the house." Auntie Rob screams at me.
"This is gonna be a long weekend" I think to myself.
Hope's POV
I put my fork down on my plate and push back from the table.
"I've got a heifer to check on." I say, grabbing my plate and taking it over to the sink.
"Well goodnight, I'll see you tomorrow bright and early for our hunt." Edd says kissing everyone, including Riley, Hugo and Sapphire, before heading off to bed.
