Lost Memory?

Someone wakes up and has no idea who they are. They've lost their memory completely. They don't know good from bad. They meet someone who wants to help them. They teach them everything they need to know to live, communicate, and some other things. This person that teaches them is poor and has a terrible job, he helps them because he knows what it's like to be in that person's shoes. He wants them to know that they are not alone and other people have been through that. That person was from another country and had to learn everything from knowing nothing. This other person who has learned everything from them to live sets out to live his life to the fullest. In the future, he realizes what the man that taught him has done just to help him with his own problem, that he could've just not cared about and left him there to die. He tries to find the man and realize that he doesn't exist? What had happened then?
