My friends and I were sitting in the production room piecing together what we just shot for our movie that we have to make for our midterm. It was late, we were starving, and we needed caffeine, so, as the good friend that I am, I made a list of food and caffeinated beverages that everyone wanted and drove to the nearest conveniece store. It was about 12:30 at night so no one was out, it was just me and the creepy sales guy at the counter who kept checking me out.
"Smooth, Stella. Going out by yourself well past midnight to a creepy convenience store. That doesn't scream rape at all." I mumbled to myself as I filled up my basket with drinks and junk food. I checked the list to make sure I got everything and turned to the creepy check out guy to find he was gone. Great! I thought to myself.
"Um, hello?" I called out while I walked cautiously to the check out counter. "Sir, where'd you--?" I yelped as I looked down past the counter to see his head smashed in and blood pooling out around him. Dead.
I heard something behind me and turned around to see a large man with black eyes swinging a knife down at me. I ducked quickly and slid under him but he was quicker and he grabbed me and pushed me up against the window, grabbing me by my neck, he picked me up so I could no longer breathe. I flailed my legs against him trying to make him let me go but I could see in his dark eyes that he wouldn't. Oh God, I'm going to die.
"Hey! Demon douche!" I heard a deep voice yell and the black eyed man jerked his head towards the voice to only be shot right between the eyes. As he fell his grip loosened and I could breathe again. I gasped for air as I slid to the floor. A tall man with kind brown eyes came over to me to check to see if I was okay. I nodded and looked past him to see another man with really nice hair kicking the man to see if he was dead.
"Really, you shot him between the eyes, dude. He's dead." I mumbled. My voice still sounded raspy and it hurt to talk so I massaged my throat.
He looked over at me with cold unfeeling eyes and said " Really, Stella. You're sassing me even though I just saved your life?"
I paused and narrowed my eyes at him "How the hell do you know my name?"
"Smooth, Dean." The kind eyed man said.
The other one, Dean, rolled his eyes and said "look, you're in danger. I'll explain more in the car but we have to go before another demon, or worse, comes for you. Sam, help her up and lets go."
Sam grabbed my arm and helped me up gently, but I yanked my arm away and backed away. "Why the hell would I go anywhere with you guys? One, I've never met you guys and two, you're obviously insane! Talking about demons and stuff. I mean what could be worse than a demon? NOTHING! Demons are pure evil. So seriously, just because you guys are gorgeous, that doesn't mean you can just tell a girl to come with you because 'she's in danger'. News flash, my life has been pretty normal until now."
Sam and Dean exchanged a look and they both smiled. "Look, Stella. I can promise you that we are the good guys. I know that it doesn't mean much to you right now, especially after what happened tonight, but I can promise you that we can take you somewhere safe and you'll be fine. I promise. I can't really offer you much proof, but you're going to have to trust us." Sam said.
I looked at him and then looked at Dean who looked outside the window, probably looking for whatever is to come. I bit my lip in thought and finally nodded. " You owe me answers to everything I ask if I come with you guys. Got it?"
Sam and Dean exchanged another look and they both groaned. "Fine." Sam said. Dean cursed and walked out of the store and I smiled in triumph. I walked past Sam and followed Dean to a beautiful black car and climbed in the back seat.
As Dean drove I looked out the window in the direction of my college, of my friends. I knew deep down I would never see them again. I knew the normal life I wanted was now out of reach. Why me? Why are they hunting me? Whoever "they" are.
I wish I didn't learn the answer to my question. I might be still be alive if I didn't know.
