A Pain

It was a pain to stay awake. Besides the occasional nurse coming in to check on me, I had nothing to entertain me. Which always ends up leading to me zoning out.

So that's what I did.

When the nurses came to check on me, I didn't move unless she fixed my pillows. And she did that a lot. Finally she brought in some food, covered up by a silvery bowl. I don't know what it's called. It smelled like heaven!

I finally moved voluntarily. But when she removed the bowl thing, I slumped back into the bed.

"Can I ever get some decent food here?" I shout angrily into a pillow. Ow. My throat hurts.

I watch through the corner of my eye as she shakes her head.

"Im sorry, hon. we are only allowed to give you mashed food and peas," She says guiltily.

"Then I'm not eating," I say horsely.

She try's to remove my face from the pillow but I stay there, gripping it as if it was my life, which I was letting slip away.
