"Crawford Academy. Since 1916"

That's right. Welcome to Crawford, the most prestigious British Institute, the one and only in which everybody fights for getting a scholarship. That's where I am and that was exactly what I did with my best friend for a few years. Always rejected. But I still don't know what was what actually brought us here now. Was it how stubborn and persistent we were? Were our first rejections warnings? Or maybe it all happened for a reason and if I had arrived earlier, he wouldn't be part of my life now.

........................

First week. Done.

Was it exactly how I imagined it to be before taking my flight from Santiago to London? Not at all. Especially when your day begins in the worst way ever.

"Emma ¡look out! " those were the first words of the day when Amanda and I were looking around the central yard of Crawford. I couldn't even turn around when I felt the hardest football strike my head. I swear it almost exploded in my ear. That's it, I'm officially deaf.

"Is this a joke? " I said a bit irritated. I look down for my things, all on the ground, when I heard someone apologizing.

"I'm so sorry! It was my fault. I couldn't catch the ball, my bad. I didn't see you there. Let me help you." A very tall guy, around 5'11, gets down to reach my stuff.

Yeah, sure, my head wasn't a big deal, just worry about my things...

"No, I got it" my 'I hate Mondays' vibe fills up the environment and turns my not-so-fluent accent into the laughing stock.

"No, let me help. I'm really sorry" he insists with a smirk and his eyes locked in mines. I just looked at Mandy and felt her index finger pecking my waist as a way to tell me to relax.

It's not my intention to be rude, but the guy hit me with a ball in the head on a Monday morning, what do you expect?

Perfect Emma, You are doing it just right!

As Mandy asks, I relax, and is at that exact moment when the boy behind the guy with no talent with the ball catches my sight. He is a bit far, so I can't see his face very well. He's wearing sunglasses and a snapback. I can take a look at his curls growing behind his hat, making him look like 'Krusty the clown', just like my old classmates. He is fit and very well-built, but what really caught my attention was his arm full of ink.

While Mandy and the guy talk, I realize that the other boy waiting for him was looking at me. He looks restless, moving around about to lose his mind because of how much time he is wasting. When he gets rid of his sunglasses I'm completely sure that he is staring at me. He shows a twisted smirk and I feel the heat reaching my cheeks. I don't know if I should smile back but, just in time, I'm saved by his friend.

"I'm Daniel" he reaches his hand to mine and when I take it, he smiles. "Daniel Sharman. A pleasure."

"Emma" I answer back at the same time I stop looking at his friend behind me and I put my bag on my shoulder once again.

"I'm Amanda."

"Nice to meet you both," he says friendly and I finally smile back.

"Who is him?" I ask carelessly.

Daniel looks behind him and waves to the mystery guy.

"A friend. You may know him later" he didn't answer my question. "Hey, once again, I'm very sorry. Let me do something for you two as repayment."

"Maybe if you tell us where is the common room everything would be forgotten," Mandy says, poking me with her elbow trying to wake me up from my trance.

"Oh! Yes, please. We are very lost in here" I go on turning my head back at the other guy again. I'm sure he was the one who hit me with the ball and he's too afraid to say sorry. What a pussy.

"No problem, I'll take you. Just wait a second" he begs with his hands while holding the ball between his arms and goes back to his friend, who moves his arms in the air and nods his head pissed off when he leaves the place.

Daniel comes back with empty hands and a big smile.

"Everything set. Shall we continue?"

And just before we go, I look one more time right to the place where everything started.
