Divergent High

Chapter 5

Tris's POV

I'm standing in the driveway, considering if i should go home or not. I sort of got jealous when Lynn kissed Four and i couldn't really enjoy the rest of the game. Also, I don't know if my dad would let me back home. Why did he get so annoyed over the terracotta pot anyway?

"Hey," I hear Four say from behind me and I jump out of my skin. "Are you alright?"

"What? yeah, I'm... I'm fine." I stutter. 

"Sorry." he says, i look at him questioningly. "For scaring you." he explains.

"It's fine, I'm fine, um..." I stutter again. He looks me in the eyes. 

"Do you want to go somewhere else?" He asks, I'm freaking out on the inside right now. I think I like him? "I was getting bored too." He adds.

"Sure!" I say after a few seconds of hesitation. 

We get in his car and he starts driving. What am i doing? I don't even know where we're going.

"Where are we going?" I ask, after realising that i hadn't even asked that yet.

"It's a surprise." He says and we keep on driving. after a few minutes we stop at a theme park? There is a sign on the front gate stating 'CLOSED FOR REPAIRS'. Four hops out of the car and gestures for me to come with him.

"Do you want to go in?" He asks. I'm freaking out right now.

"It says 'closed for repairs' over there." I say, pointing at the sign that clearly states that the place is closed in bold letters.

"Just live a little, Tris!" He says as he starts climbing over the tall fence. My brain is dead right now. Be safe or follow the cute boy? Ugh.

After a few seconds of hesitation, the follow the cute boy option wins. I walk over to the fence and start climbing. I know i shouldn't be doing this, but i really want to. If i didn't I would miss this crazy opportunity, and if i didn't he'd probably take another girl instead and I really don't want that.

I make it to the top of the fence and drop on the other side. As i land i stumble forward and fall over. Four chuckles.

"Need a hand?" He asks from in front of me, holding his hand out to help me up. I take his hand and he helps me up. I brush the dirt and grass off my clothes. 

"Where to?" I ask, looking around the theme park. It's quite large and there are a bunch of fenced of rides in the repair stage.

"Why don't we start with the ferris wheel?" He asks. I nod. 

This is crazy. I've broken into a theme park with the guy i like and now we're going to go on rides?

I follow him all the way to the ferris wheel. He walks straight past the control panel and right to the wheel itself.

"Um... Are you going to turn it on?" I ask, extremely confused. He looks at me like i'm dumb.

"Where not riding the ferris wheel," he says, rolling his eyes. "That's way too boring and slow."

"Then... what are we doing?" I ask, now even more confused. If we're not riding it, please don't say-

"We're climbing it!" He says. why? why? why, why, why? The one time do something crazy, follow the cute boy i like, the one time I do that we have to be doing something that can kill me!

I nod. Why am i so terrible at standing up for myself? will I ever say no to this boy?

"After you." He says gesturing to the ladder. "I'll catch you if you fall."

I grab a rung and start hauling myself up the ladder. Slowly, but surely, I'm making my way to the top. One rung at a time. 

By now we are quite high of the ground. This has gotten exciting! I keep climbing up, higher and higher. Suddenly, i don't hear the clinging of the rungs below me. Has Four stopped following? I look below me to see Four extremely still.

"Hey Tris, don't you think this is high enough?" he calls out to me, his voice slightly shaky. 

"You're afraid of heights?" I call back, raising my eyebrow.

"Sort of." he responds so quietly that i almost can't hear him. "Very." he says correcting himself.

"Okay." I say in a fake understanding voice. "I Dauntless you to climb up the rest of this with me!"

"Are you seriously doing this?"  He asks, laughing. "Come on, let's get down." He says, climbing down a rung.

"Just live a little, Four!" I call out, using his own quote from before against him. I'm so evil. "Besides, this was your stupid idea anyway."

"Exactly, it's a stupid idea. let's get down now!" He says, lowering himself another rung down.

I ignore him and keep climbing upwards. I hear him groan from below and start following me. Yes, i am victorious! I climb until i reach the top. I look down and Four is still below me.

"We can head down now!" I call at him. I see him nod shakily, i'm such a bad person. Why did i do this to him? he's not going to like me after this! 

We both slowly make our way down the ladder until we reach the bottom. We start walking back to the fence at the front that we jumped to get in. I climb up and this time I land well. We jump in Four's car.

"I'm sorry for making you climb that. I'm a bit of an insensitive idiot sometimes..." I say softly. 

"It's fine. I'm an insensitive idiot to make you go into the theme park." he responds. I feel slightly better. slightly. "What's your address?" He asks. I glance at my phone and see the time, 6:30. I'm not going home yet. 

"I don't want to go home yet, i'm in a bit of trouble with my father." I respond. Four glances at me questioningly and then looks back to the road.

He suddenly turns into a parking lot and parks the car.

"Well, we can talk a bit until you think your ready to go home." He says.

"That sounds like a good plan." I say as i nod in response. Sitting and chatting with Four in his car sounds like a great plan.
