I woke up and it was dark. All the boys were sleeping in various places in the room. Asa and Drew had claimed the couch. Liam was sprawled out on two different chairs. Clay was sleeping next to me. Or in the bed next to mine. I watched him for awhile. He was handsome to say the least. He looked so peaceful asleep was , when awake he had a severe look on his face. He was constantly worried. About us. About his family at home. About the Elder who cared for us. But when he was asleep he looked peaceful and happy even.

"Hey you." He said stretching.

"Hey. I didnt mean to wake you." I said shifting a little under the blanket.

"No. Its fine. Are they still asleep?" He said nodding to the others.

I nodded. He propped himself up on one arm.

"I suppose you're hungry." He said.

I hadn't thought about it but the last time i had eaten was the day before.

"Yes, very."

He rose and slowly made his way across the room.

"Hold on." He said. He leaned over me and lifted me out of bed. I slipped my hands around his neck. He carried me out of the room and to the kitchen.

Carefully he set me on the counter.

"What do you want?"

"Anything."

"Okay."

He busied himself with reheating something.

"Here. Its what we had last night." He said sitting it next to me. It was soup. One we had been eating for...well ever.

I tried to lift my hand to the spoon and found I couldnt.

"Can you....?" I said flushing red.

"What? Oh um sure." He said.

Sitting next to me he put the spoon to my lips. I was blushing a deep red and focused on the spoon. I could feel his eyes on me. I stole a quick glance up. He was staring at me , his face blank and expressionless. He was thinking.

"Sore wa nanidesu ka#?" I asked.

"Huh? Oh nothing. Are you done?" He said quickly.

"Yes. Thank you." I said bowing my head a little. It hurt but it was something I always did. Force of habit.

"Of course. Do you want to lie back down?"

"No. No. I want to....Do anything other than stay in that room." I said quickly.

He nodded and lifted me in arms again. There was an awkwardness in it that movement that was different than the first time. His muscles were tense.

"I'm sorry." I said as we walked down the hallway.

"Why?"

"For this. You having to take care of me."

"I dont mind."

"I could one of the others help me. If you'd like." All the younger kids felt like a burden on Asa, Clay and Atom.

"No. They wouldnt...That is they...No."

I laughed a little.

"What?"

"You seemed so...I don't know shy." I said.
